I'm not old but their website seems rather inappropriate, bad language and images. Don't seem too friendly either but I guess that happens in every fanbase.
All the football threads I've seen on there have been raided by euros or trolls pretending euros calling it handegg and claiming that it sucks. Pass. Oh and >2011 >using memes that are old and busted I seriously hope you guys aren't doing this.
It's certainly not a forum for everyone. If you find profanity and risqué images "inappropriate" there is no shortage of OU boards that provide a moderated environment that keeps the discussion to high(er) standards; SoonerFans being the prime example. Having posted here since 2005 I do know it comes off as an "old boys club" to many potential members, this was one of the contributing factors to LT's success following the OUInsider exodus. I've also seen South Park and pop-culture references be so misunderstood here that they resulted in bannings, one of reasons I wanted to help start an OU forum with very different moderating philosophy and targeted to younger fans/students/alumni. Those really only happen in the off season or in threads dedicated to US vs. Euro, and they're almost always jokes. Another way we emulate /sp/, and I suppose why you don't enjoy it there... trolls really aren't the problem, people taking words said on the internet personally enough to get baited into arguments are.
Get rid of Stu as a mod ASAP. The board is awesome, but that was a HUUUUUUGGGGGGEEEEEE mistake. Seriously. There's a reason he isn't welcome anywhere. And that's the reason LT isn't the most trafficked OU board.
First, he's not a mod. Second, mods on LT don't exist as "enforcers"; banning and editing out offensive materials or removing offensive posters. But rather regulated to deleting spambot posts and keeping boards organized. And again, if a single member on a forum is enough to anger you to the extent that you take it personally, stewing with angst and bitterness in your computer chair because some dude you will probably never meet got under your skin, then LandThieves isn't the place for you and why we don't waste time recruiting members. It's a niche site, like-minded people will come to us.
I do wish that a few of them provided an epic meltdown before leaving. Speaking of, I think I will leave now. Why, you ask? Just to be clear. After a year of mostly positive experience, in which I had decided to become an Elite Sponsor, I started the Hollis Board, I had a 46,000 spek rating based on real spek not betting over two season and 1500 posts, in the last four weeks I can see this board is a place I don't want to be or patronize. There are two other boards which I believe have at least equivalent football knowledge without the abusive environment. I am taking my business elsewhere. John W. Helander President & CEO GrayBox Services Ltd. & eState Auction House Ltd.
I think you're missing the point.... I actually LIKE stu personally. It's that you're setting the website up for an epic explosion with him in any semblance of power. And since when was he not a mod? He was the last time I posted there.
Soonerfans is probably the best. It likely has the highest percentage of alumni posting (like myself, class of 2003 Mechanical Engineering). I like how you need a legit email account to sign up here, not just a free yahoo, gmail, or hotmail account. This probably weeds out a lot of trolls that just want to cause trouble. IMO, Landthieves has too many inappropriate images of women all over the place, which is really distracting. I mean, who posts that kind of crap anyway (other than congressman apparently). Would you really want your Mom, Daughter, etc., seeing that? I don't. OUInsider was really good at one point, like 3-4 years ago, but the free boards were run into the ground. It is basically a Rivals.com clone now, where the only decent board is the pay board.
Since we switched to anonymous moderating with limited privileges to merge/move threads. Again, it's a niche site by design. We have options to toggle avatars/word filters for browsing at work. If you're the kind of person who loses sleep at night worrying that your mom/daughter/real doll may catch a glimpse of some side-boob on that bastion of innocence known as the internet then I'm sure there are some Taliban forums you'd enjoy.
So, he is a mod. And in all seriousness, you should seriously reevaluate this decision. I'm sure he sweet talked you with his 1337 vBulletin skills or what not, but I assure you that some day, probably someday soon, you'll understand what I'm talking about.
No, The, they don't care more than you do. Seriously. That's why they came here to tell you such. And I don't hate /sp/, but emulating it is beyond stupid.
Yeah, I'm bored with boy humor, cervical pounding references, and boobies are allsome centric sites and decided to pick one that had enough traffic to keep me entertained with football talk in the fall. I was fairly entertained here for a half-season in 2010, we'll see how it goes this season.
