Are Jews a Race or Belief system?

I think there is a misconception that Jews are a race of people. Being Jewish is just like being Catholic, Baptist, Muslim, Buddhist, ect... Can a person claims to be Jewish and not follow the Jewish customs. If a person who claims to be Jewish eats pork- are they still Jewish? I think it is just a belief system. If I start following Jewish custom then I would be just as Jewish as any other Jew. Is my thought process wrong?

How am I being raciest? My kids are half Igbo. There mother is Nigerian. They clam to be original Jews. My first daughter was born 3 months pre mature and the Jewish hospital in OKC took care of my baby for free - because they knew she was "Jewish"... As far as "original" belief system goes. They claim to be Christian now - not Jewish

 

Being raciest is actually cooler than being racist.

 

Jewishness is matrilineal, but it really is both.

 

In the 1980s, the United States Supreme Court ruled that Jews are a race.
