Jim Stanley's son, Mark, is a friend of mine. I never got to meet Jim, but Mark is a hell of a good guy. We talked about how his Dad was doing just a few days ago. Apparently, it's been a long illness.

I sent condolences, but there's not much to say. It sucks when your Dad dies.

For an Aggie is the key phrase. They did have some false information in that article:

I didn't realize a Big 8 football champion went to the Tangerine Bowl. That's because they weren't the REAL Big 8 football champ that year, Colorado was and they represented the Big 8 in the Orange Bowl.

Three way tie OU,OSU and CU----The loss to CU by OSU had in it maybe the biggest single play choke in Poke history-----But they were good in 1976

I've got a golfing buddy that played for him at oSu. Said buddy is in prison now.

He could coach and had some good teams. '76 was pretty good with Terry Miller. Of course they were pretty well paid too. His players loved and respected him. RIP.

He was a fine man and very good coach. His biggest "fault" was he could not compete with OU. That has led the Aggies to make many stupid moves involving coaches. It will be interesting to see how long it will be before they turn on Gumby. It also seems that he lost his wife at an early age.
