i thought it was interesting that the producers decided to show the whole scene of Hurley and Sayid and the short wave radio dealio. of all the things to show and point out, the underlieing theme of that scene was 'time'.

i will be disappointed if the shows jumps the shark and goes the route of 'star trek' and 'time displacement'

I was wondering about that too. Don't know what it meant. They might have just been trying to give us a false direction. Also, don't forget that they showed the outside world with the signal that got sent from the island after the swan station got shut down.

Also, this thread is only a spoiler if you're not up to date. Which, considering it's the "season 3 thread" should be obvious.

Things I'm looking forward to in season 3:

1. What happens to Micheal the Murderer and Walt?

2. What's with the four toed statue?

3. Have we forgoten about the monster? Tell us more.

I'm amazed how the show has redefined itself in the first scene of each season opener. Interesting in the next week preview that it looks like the losties have surprised the others for the first time. I do expect them to start getting a leg up on the others this season.

A friend of mine forced me to watch the season premiere of Lost last night. I guess the story goes that a group of people are living in a tropical paradise and their whole existence revolves on waiting for a plane to crash so they can torture the survivors with invisible dinosaurs and such.

I kind of got the vibe that Ben and Juliette (or "Benliette") may have been romantically involved at some point, but it didn't work out. Hence, the sort of awkward moments between them. I could easily see her turning on him in the future (maybe a "power struggle"?).

and on that note:

Possible Jack--Tom/Zeke/Mr Friendly connection?

In the Season 3 premier, I think Tom was the patient (looked to be sleeping) in the Jack flashback with him, when the nurse questions if 'he (TOM?) is ready to self administer his pain medication', about that time Jack's father in the hallway gets a call on this cell phone, and Jack thinks it is his wife and is distracted. What was with the awkward moment between Juliet and Colleen near the start of the episode, when Benry was there with them? Maybe a love triangle? Guess we'll never know now.

Yeah I think it's becoming more apparent that Ben and Juliet are a semi-recently broken up couple and he's now with Collen. If that's the case, he's gonna be ****ed when he finds out she's shot/dead.

alot of the "Lost" fans at work are starting to turn on the show..as well as a few here......i'm trying to figure out why......i think in the first season and for part of season 2.....the "losties" were thought to be in another world....like a land of the lost, where anything can happen......but now they've been taken out of that into what seems like reality, or present time....and its just not believable..they've removed the "sci-fi" element....which i think is what attracted alot of fans to the show in the first place

I'm still in. I think it's great, even though no matter how much the previews show, not that much happens action wise. Lot more psychological info.

We probably will find out.

And, didn't Some guy kiss Colleen and tell her to "be careful" later in the episode? I seem to remember that.

Personally, I'm surprised that so many people have stuck with Lost this long. It requires a greater commitment than any other TV show ever has. It doesn't pander to the lowest-common denominator, assuming that if you're watching it then you're smart enough to follow along. Above all, it requires a great deal of faith in its creators that it's going somewhere, and a great deal of patience.

I think it's a remarkable show. The internal consistency is amazing - even if the washer/dryer set are too new, if they put a brand new Mercedes in the show (gotta pay the bills, you know), the stuff that matters is very rarely off. They don't resort to cheap gimmicks or take shortcuts. The characters are top-notch and the writing is excellent. All I have to do is look at shows that tried to copy it - Invasion, The Nine, Heroes - to know that what they're doing isn't easy to achieve.

That being said, I don't think it can go more than five years. Four sounds more right.

I think that the others are the scientists that were left over from the original experiment and that they are using the plane survivors to continue the experiments...

I'm not so sure I agree with this assesment....

In season 2, the army commander dude who was in the bunker when Desmond arrived referred to the others as hostiles. He also inferred that he had voluntarily joined the Dharma Initiative, which would seem to indicate that the others were likely not part of that experiment...

I think more likely, the others were originally part of the experiments, and later decided the experiments were evil...They may have broken off and annointed themselves protectors of the island, becomming hostile toward anyone they percieved as continuing the work of the Dharma Initiative. It's likely that they see crash survivors as potential Dharma operatives.

Of course, thats just my opinion for now.

Jin ain't dumb. I don't think that there's any way that he hasn't figured out that ol' baldy was hittin' his wife.

Between the "soiled our family's honor"language of his father-in-law, his wife's reacation when he came home, and the fact that baldy was clutching a woman's necklace, there were enough clues there. And of course, the episode showed that Sun can't pull the wool over his eyes as easily as she thinks.

So I rewatched the episode 3.2 again last night. and came away with a few thoughts

1) Does Sun ever tell the truth?
2) the 'chain gang', what is the purpose here? the 'tamping' down of the ground might be significant. building a road? runway? are are they looking for something?
3) 'Benry' seems to be pretty passionate about Baseball in general
4) the 'others' still give off the impression of being the 'good guys' (Colleen talking to Sun in the sailboat, Benry talking to Micheal at the end of season 2) Also Kelvin mention 'volunteering' for the Dharma project', but also mentioned to Desmond about the 'Hostles'. We assume that the 'others' and 'hostles' are the same group, but i wonder of the 'hostles' could be a splinter group that is working against the 'others'

otherwise, i got nothin.

I think that the guy in the hatch w/Desmond was one of the others and that is how he and his hatch mate that died know the description of the dharma project to draw on the hatch wall....

I had never thought that there could be two groups of people....However, that is a good posibility now that I think about it.

And how is it that the others supposedly have contact w/the outside world and no one thought to check to see if that is where the plane went down....

Yeah, but I thought they were just going to go around in circles like Desmond did. In fact, they mentioned going in circles the previous episode when referring to the sailboat. It probably has something to do with the magnetism.

And this episode seemed to mainly set things up so they go and try to rescue Jack, Sawyer, and Freckles. I thought it was OK, although I'd think the bear would a) go for the kill right off the bat and b) not drag it's kill back to the cave and c) not kill a pig when it already has food and d) run like hell right after the hatch exploded.

Thoughts after watching a second time:

Is Desmond really alive? Hurley is the only one who's interacted with him, and there's no evidence that the others have even seen him. Hurley's also had a thing for hallucinations before.

The best thing about the episode? The cool Locke seems to be back! He spent season 2 pushing the button and reacting - now he may become "the hunter" again. He's also exhibiting leadership abilities.

I really like how they're building Locke's character. Unlike the others, he seems to have one key event (when he lost use of his legs) that the flashbacks are building to, forwards and backwards. I suspect I know what causes him to lose his ability to walk, but the writers have fooled me before.

I think this episode is better than I originally gave it credit for. Sometimes the slower episodes give away more key info than the exciting ones.

- I enjoy Locke's flashbacks the most. I think he's the most interesting/complex character on the show.

- Does anyone else find the lack of interest about why the island shook and the sky lit up, odd? Especially from the people residing in Otherville. They had to have had some knowledge about why it happened, and yet we haven't really seen any discussion of it among them.

- Cool to see Boone again. The episode where he died had me in tears. That whole dream scene when Locke went all Twin Peaks on us was bizarre.

- The two new characters on the beach are named Nikki and Paulo:

- Next week's episode looks like it will kick all kinds of a$$.

well as much as I don't like it, time travel is not outside the realm of possibilities given everything that DHARMA was working on.

I watched LOST for the first time EVAR last night.............gonna have to start watching it now. My thoughts after reading this entire thread..........can you say Chris Carter and X-files?........and by that I mean Carter could have done the ENTIRE series in three seasons instead of enormahuge amounts of whogivesash*t episodes. If I ever do meet Chris Carter........freakin' throat punch.

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- The return of ABC's reality show "Extreme Makeover" lasted one week.

The network has pulled the plastic surgery series after one low-rated airing in the 8 p.m. Friday slot. Beginning November 3, ABC will return to the scheduling pattern from earlier in the season, airing a repeat of "Grey's Anatomy" in the opening hour of primetime.

Additionally, ABC has set February 7 as a return date for the hit drama "Lost." The first portion of the adventure series' third season is slated to end November 8, with new series "Day Break" schedule to air in "Lost's" 9 p.m. Wednesday slot starting November 15.

When it returns February 7, "Lost" is scheduled to run with all-original episodes through the end of the season.

In another scheduling move, ABC is bringing the legal drama "Boston Legal" to its original 10 p.m. Sunday slot November 26 for a special airing of the opening of a two-part episode. The conclusion is slated to run November 28 in "Boston Legal's" regular 10 p.m. Tuesday slot.

Yeah, they are doing this in lieu of having repeats ever couple of weeks. Instead, they are just not showing any repeats, and they're breaking the season into two parts.

I mentioned it in the season 2 thread.

The decision was to remove all the breaks in the season and have episodes play straight through. They'll have the first six episodes, break for a few months, then play the remaining 16 without a break.

I like it. It's easier to take the long breaks of Lost than to skip one or two weeks at a time.

It had something to do with their shooting schedule...couldn't get more episodes in without a break. Or so I heard.
