Books about War...
Can someone recommend me a book about a war to read. Preferably, focused on pre-WWII European ones, or Naval History. I need something to work into my non-fiction rotation.

Re: Books about War...
Off the very top of my head:
Trafalgar, the Nelson Touch, David Howarth.
A good simple intelligent account of the battle, and not very long. It's the first account of the battle I ever read.

By the way, Lott's B, he said PRE-WW-II. But I will be looking for your book, so THANKS! Ever read Iron Coffins? That's a great U-boat book by a German survivor of the U-boat war.

Re: Books about War...
I can't think of any PRE WWII books since WWII is kind of a passion of mine. "Run silent, Run Deep" is a great story though.

Re: Books about War...
Yes, I know he said pre-WWII European Navy but I'm still going to put in my recommendation...
Any book by John C. McManus -- most are about grunts from WWII-present but all are great.

Try Europe Central by Vollman. It's fiction but it won the National Book Award. The thing is a monster, but it's an amazing book.

Re: Books about War...
There is a series of books about a fictional British character named "Flashman." Ripping good stuff.

Not pre-WWII, but a very good read - Operation Drumbeat.
