Article: Sam Bradford keeping Rams in stitches

Sam Bradford keeping Rams in stitches
    August, 31, 2010

    By Mike Sando
The "Elway Cross" defined the mark John Elway's bullet passes could leave on a receiver's chest when the point of the football made impact.

The St. Louis Rams might need to come up with another name for what happens when Sam Bradford's ball arrives at its destination.

One pass Bradford threw to Danny Amendola in the third exhibition game at New England tore up the receiver's hand. Amendola required six stitches for a wound Bradford called "pretty nasty" in appearance.

    Amendola was wearing gloves, too.

So what Im getting from this is that, Sam broke everyone last year...it all makes sense now.
    "And shepherds we shall be,
for Thee, my Lord, for Thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,
that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
and teeming with souls shall it ever be.

Six stitches is a pretty decent sized gash.

Well, throwing the ball damn fast is one way to not get intercepted. There were a few that I thought the Pats had a chance of picking off, but perhaps the thought of losing part of your hand deterred them?

I saw this a few days ago on a Ram board. That Amendola is a stud too; he played the whole first half with the wound before he pulled the glove off...I can't imagine making all the subsequent catches of bullets that he did.

Dang, you want some zip on the ball, but that's crazy. I've never seen/heard of that happening before, don't really understand HOW it could cut his hand deep enough to need stitches, that's just weird.

This is food for thought. My daydreams of running routes and catching passes in the NFL just got harder.

A similar story changed my dreams of catching fly balls in the outfield in the majors. When Pete Incaviglia went straight to the majors the papers ran a pic of him with his massive forearms crossed over a hole he had knocked the ball through a piece of plywood. In the outfield!

How is his ball going to land any harder than any other ball hit in the area? (And while the Bradford story sounds pretty neat... c'mon.)
