Cloture vote falls short 47-53, or close to that. Dingy Harry Reid not likely to bring up the bill again anytime soon. So sad...WHERE'S THE FENCE?

Put a lid on it! Kiss it goodbye. We gave it away, and apparently thought it made sense to do so.
Very Nice!
Quote from POTUS
"Legal immigration is one of the top concerns of the American people"
damm straight, as well as amnesty for illegals...
approval rating at 26% & falling....maybe the people are being heard sometimes...
I can always hope, can't I?
An optimist is a father who lets his teen-age son take the car on a date. A pessimist is a father who will not. A cynic is a father who did.
AMNESTY = BAD! It's not Mensa stuff. WHERE'S THE FENCE?

I thought Amnesty and the fence were two different issues.
Fence = Keeping out new illegals
Amnesty = Dealing with the present illegals
So build the fence then what?
That's right, build the fence first. Then, once we have at least partial control over immigration, we can deal with those that are here. It's not difficult for the general populace to understand. The politicians, well, many don't get it.Originally Posted by thenotman

catapult the residing illegals to the other side of it.
just a thought, pay mexican generals to keep illegals on their side of the border.
I don't think they would keep their jobs very long if they did that.Originally Posted by garland sooner

so just build a fence in the south?
In the beginning, the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
Heh. Filibuster when done by people I disagree with=denial of the will of the majority. Filibuster when done by people I agree with=the will of the people being done.
"The choices we discern as having been made in the Constitutional Convention impose burdens on governmental proceses that often seem clumsy, inefficient, even unworkable, but those hard choices were consciously made by men who had lived under a form of government that permitted arbitrary governmental acts to go unchecked." INS v. Chadha, 462 U.S. 919 (1983) (Burger, C.J.)
Wouldn't a sensible compromise be to build the wall around California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas borders with the rest of the United States instead?
For the good old American lifestyle: For the money, for the glory, and for the fun... mostly for the money.
how bout a giant dome. or those crazy fences in Lost that make your head explode. or we could put an electric fence up. or perhaps shock collars for the mexicans that'll go off when they get to close. man, i should be in congress. i'm oozing out the ideas here.
i make my guitar weep, but my champagne cry
IMO, even a goodly number of democrats in the general populace want border security.(terrorism, ya know)Originally Posted by Mike Rich

The Great Wall of America. I'm not joking either.
My first thought was that "Amnesty Bill" was guy's nickname and that there was a fight on the Senate floor.
I don't get out much...
You tell me it's the institution. Well, you know, you'd better free your mind instead.
(Shoo-bee doo-wah)
If I read the stories correctly, this wasn't a filibuster. This was a procedural vote that failed to push the bill to the next level. Isn't a filibuster when one person through a parlamentarian move prevents work of the Senate from proceeding because the filibusterer has the floor and will not relinquish it by continually speaking?Originally Posted by Mike Rich
And oh yeah,
I am thankful that a really bad piece of law has been procedurally set aside. This bill as it was progressing was sort of like showing up for an exam, you sitting down to write it and the test not being completed, but that you were being held to the answers of the questions that you didn't know about yet...
Everything progressives do is aimed at weakening democracy, capitalism and the social and cultural institutions that support those things...... They are about subjugating people and being a ruling class.
