    Oklahoma City Stars Are SAC Champions

    The Oklahoma City Stars swept their competition to take the Sooner Athletic Conference title today.

    After three run-rule victories, the Stars won a slugfest against Southern Nazarene for the title.

    OCU 14, NWOSU 1 on Wednesday, May 2
    OCU 12, USAO 2 on Thursday, May 3
    OCU 13, Lubbock Christian 3 on Friday, May 4
    OCU, 14, Southern Naz 13 for the title today, May 5

    Now it's on to Houston for the Region VI tourney. Winning Region VI pretty much guarantees the Stars a return to the NAIA World Series.

    I was thinking the same thing myself!

    Crabaugh is a good cat. Hell of a coach! Right now, it would nice if he came south a few miles and set them Sooners on fire.

    And by winning the first game of the regional yesterday, they continue a tradition that started when I was there. They have now won 50 or more games for nine consecutive seasons.

    A little bit of a shocker today. SNU beat OCU in extras on a walk-off HR. SNU had tied it at 2 in the bottom of the 9th with a HR by the starting pitcher who went the distance for the win.

    Chris Hardin for SNU is having a great season. Goes 10 inn. on the mound and goes yard. Is he another Ray Hayward or Brooks Kiesnick?

    Does OCU have the pitching depth to come back thru the loser's bracket?

    I wonder if OCU took SNU lightly since they just beat them in the conference championship? OR what is just SNU's day?

    I don't think OCU took SNU lightly - Crabaugh and Lytle won't let their boys do that at this point in the season. SNU is/was a worthy foe, and OCU ran into a buzz saw. It happens. I don't think it'll happen twice in one series.

    OCU has excellent pitching depth (I think it was their #3 who threw against SNU), but consider this also: In 60 games so far this year, OCU has outscored its opponents 603 to 222. The boys can hit, too. All the more reason to respect Hardin's accomplishment.

    Yes, sorry I didn't get the reference. Jack is the Stars' unofficial strength and conditioning coach, and a heck of a powerlifter in his own right.

    And OCU is done after giving up a 9, yes 9 run 9th inning to lose to Lubbock Christian 11-7.

    Truly an unfortunate end to the season. Giving up 9 runs in any inning, even to Lubbock, is unforgivable.

    Only way things could have been worse would be if I was rooting for Oklahoma Baptist.
