    Kentucky Derby Day

Today is the day for the Kentucky Derby. Get your mint juleps and sing My Old Kentucky Home (with the sanitized lyrics, of course)

It seems like there's been a lot less primetime coverage of horse racing this year than most. Perhaps it's due to the lack of a clear favorite. The Derby field is a full 20 colts today, usually a sign that no one colt has emerged as a prohibitive favorite.

I think, though, that the nation got caught up in the Barbaro saga last year, and is still feeling a bit of heartache over it so that it is harder for the casual fan (like me) to get enthusiastic about horse racing again.

One interesting story for this year's Derby is the presence of an unbeaten colt, Curlin. The knock on him is that he's run only 3 times, and not at all as a 2 year old. If he does win the Derby, he might have the star power to captivate the casual fan base once again.

Anyone else following this have any thoughts?

Who is this year's candidate for the glue factory ala barbaro?
