Also, the state could do such a better job at promoting itself and its resources for both tourists and investments.

I'd get rid of that gawdamn sales tax ON FOOD!
I have three wishes.
1) Packaged high point beer may be sold cold by any retailer who has a beer license.
2) Every trailer park owner shall be required by law to build commodius tornado shelters within a 1 minute walk of all park tenants, and park owners shall maintain a warning system wired to every trailer to alert said occupants of impending tornadic doom.
3) Rename oSu "Pickens State"

do something to attract real tech companies/businesses
you know, more than call centers
and get rid of canoe beer
If high point beer could be sold cold at Quik Trip, canoe beer would cease to exist through the effect of market forces. That is precisely why "big beer" opposes such measures. Right now, distributors like Ben E. Keith, et. al, have the market cornered on near beer and would lose market share if tasty alternatives were available cold. Also, the liquor store lobby spends a lot of money in OKC to keep the legislators payed off so they won't mess with the status quo.Originally Posted by yermom

yeah, we were posting at the same time, i was basically saying the same thing
that and i just like the phrase "canoe beer"
I'd like be recognize the place I grew up once again. Bingo places and smoke shops suck.
Perhaps the Indian proprietors of those places would prefer it if you were'nt around either. You know, so Oklahoma could be theirs again like it was before we got here in violation of Federal treaty obligations to the tribes.Originally Posted by sanantoniosooner
It always strikes me as odd that no one favors welfare for poor folks, but when the federal government and the state combine to make it possible for Indian people to improve their lot in life through hard work and investment in gaming facilities, that's somehow bad too.

We should've limited those things to being built in the uglier sections of Oklahoma.
the casinos are growing a bit unbounded it seems, i mean they are killing each other
i'd like all the oklahoma drivers to be taught that the left lane isnt the "go slow and look at the flowers lane"
and then i'd like for i-35 to be a decent road from one state line to the other
Well, good news is, I think the day will come when gaming will be just a small sector of tribal GNP. Tribes are already diversifying into other areas with gaming revenues making it possible.Originally Posted by sanantoniosooner
A great example is the Florida Seminoles. They now own the entire Hard Rock Cafe corporation and all franchises. They're building a new one as we speak in Fiji which is estimated to bring in $160M annually.
Tribes are waking up to the fact that broader entertainment and leisure opportunities abound that do not involve gaming and thus avoid complicated issues of compliance with federal and state gaming laws.
