I haven't seen them all, so I will abstain.
The Return of the King
Seabiscuit
Lost In Translation
Mystic River
Master and Commander blah blah blah
I haven't seen them all, so I will abstain.
You...You look like your head fell in the cheese dip back in 1957!!!
ROTK...All the others suck...
I have seen NONE of those movies. And I refuse to see LOR.
of course I haven't seen all of them either...
Was Big Fish released too late?
It blows every other movie up there to shreds.
Can I submit a write in for Big Fish?
Exactly. It got one nomination, for best original score.Originally Posted by Frozen Sooner
I wouldn't say they suck; I am guessing you kinda liked that one, huh?Originally Posted by OklahomaTrombone

So it WASN'T released too late? They just didn't nominate it?
Those mother****ers. I want to go to their mother****ing houses and slit their mother****ing throats.
Big Fish is more than one of the five best movies this year. It's possibly one of the five best movies of all time.
If I see anyone from the Academy, I'm going to fight them.
Easily the best movie I've seen in years.Originally Posted by Frozen Sooner
Ok, let's eliminate a few right away. Seabiscuit was Rudy with a horse. right.
Next, Lost in Translation. From what I understand (I must admit I haven't seen it) it was actually funny.
Moving along we come to Mystic River. This has a pretty good shot, from what I can see, but it seems more likely to wind up a Sean Penn oscar than a whole-movie oscar.
Master and Commander. Very well done, so on and so forth. I really enjoyed it. BUT: the characters are kind of flat; they never really do anything unexpected or show depth (my opinion). I don't see it getting best picture, but it might get some costuming/cinematography awards.
ROTK: huge, epic, oscar-worthy performances from both Andy Serkis AND Sean Astin, and it's the concluding chapter of one of the greatest stories ever written (I believe the Bible leads in sales, but that's it) so no worries about the story being good enough. We have a winner.
Although I agree, Big Fish would give it a run for its money.

... that's not food.
Go ahead and let the flames begin, but a movie with dragons and elves should not win best picture, I don't care how good it is.

I don't know what you mean, EM. It's only slightly more seeped in fantasy than "Gangs of New York", "Gladiator" and "Braveheart"...

Do big apes qualify? I have high hopes for "King Kong"...
Just because it may be one of hte greatest stories ever written (although I can't stand fantasy), doesn't mean it should win an oscar.Originally Posted by GHP
Look, it was a good movie, but I didn't enjoy it any more than, say, Seabiscuit, or Master/Commander, or Mystic River. Actually, I enjoyed the latter three more than LOTR. I also have a general rule that if I have to take a nap in the middle of a movie, it wouldn't be something I'd like
My vote would got to Seabiscuit or Mystic River.
Big Fish??
The cold has frozen your brain Frozen - Mystic River was far better than Big Fish.
<-- Winky thing for the frozen brain comment, not for the MR > BF opinion.
We have always known that heedless self-interest was bad morals; we know now that it is bad economics. FDR.
I picked The Return of the King. I want a real movie to win the award for once. I'm tired of seeing those artsy-fartsy "films" win the big one. You know, the movies that no one really likes, but they say they do just because it's the thing to do.
La ola es mía.
Like the ones about the transgendered holocaust survivor who plays the accordian with his feet because he doesn't have arms?Originally Posted by Pricetag
