    fishing question

    lemme ask you hillbillies sumfin...

with the bassmaster classic on this weekend (and bass-o-matic working overtime today) i got to wondering about the timing of the event.

why do they have their "superbowl" during the winter months??? i noticed that the water temp of the lake was around 49-54 degrees. why not have the tournament when 1 - bass are spawning and are more active and the females are larger, or 2 - during the summer months when bass are more active and fatter from the supply of food???

is there something that because the water is colder, and fish are less active/slower, that makes it more difficult to catch them (obviously) and makes it more of a challenge for the tournament???

just wondering... for you fishing knowledge possessors.
I don’t know if the block on that last one was due to low trajectory or if the guys up front didn’t hold their ground well enough. I’m not convinced it matters. We have every reason to believe the ball could have gone through the uprights and the refs would have signaled first down Oregon. - D.E.

Football is over, baseball has yet to begin. Somebody may watch fishing on TV.

    Re: fishing question

I would say that largely depends on where they are fishing. Around here, S'W' Missouri and over into S'E' Kansas there are many places where this is the time of the year when the big female bass start feeding to prepare for spawn...You can catch VERY big bass this time of the year. It also could have a lot to do with the fact that fish tend to "hold" in certain places during this time of the year... I'd say it's a combination of several things such as this.

seriously, what's with all the yelling and stuff. you caught a lower species animal for crying out loud.

fyi, if you like bass fishing, read Double Whammy by carl hiaasen. all his book are pretty clever and fun to read.

I'm guessing they want to make the fishing a little more challenging for their Super Bowl.

I have tournament fished for bass, and have been an ardent fisherman all my life. This answer is probably the most significant factor in the bass tourney decisions.(for example, catching bass during the spawn is not hard to do. Catching them deep during cold water periods-not so easy)
Put a lid on it! Kiss it goodbye. We gave it away, and apparently thought it made sense to do so.
