OKLAHOMA 14, ST. CLOUD STATE 3
The No. 5-ranked University of Oklahoma® Hockey club scored eight goals in the second period as they outworked, outhustled and outscored an outmanned team from St. Cloud State by a score of 14-3 Friday evening at Blazers Ice Centre in Oklahoma City. Keith Denton scored on the power play at 8:25 of the first to get the scoring parade underway for the Sooners and give OU a 1-0 lead. Owen Brewer and Adrian Borchgrevink added even strength goals later in the period to give OU a 3-0 lead. In the second, the scoring came fast and furious from the Sooners after St. Cloud netted a goal to get within two. Kyle Allan scored twice in the period while Trevor Hallberg, Justin Hall, Doug Gebbie, Denton, Brewer and Borchgrevink all added single markers to give OU an insurmountable 11-1 lead after forty minutes of play. The third period saw SCSU score two goals on the power play to make it an 11-3 game. However, Danny Force scored on the power play and both Allan and Borchgrevink capped off their respective hat trick evenings with power play goals each in the third to make tonight’s final score 14-3. Borchgrevink now has 28 goals on the season, which is an OU Hockey single season record, and has now tied former Sooners forward Kelly Forbes’ 47 points from the 2003-2004 season for most points scored in a season.
Sooners’ goaltender Tom Schaul stopped 15 of the 18 SCSU shots he faced on the evening while his counterpart, St. Cloud State’s Chris Dorscher, officially made 38 saves on 52 shots. OU was 5 for 11 on the power play while St. Cloud was 2 for 7 with the man advantage.
The win improves OU’s record to 29-4-0, adding to OU Hockey’s record for wins in a season, while St. Cloud State drops to 12-16-3. The Sooners face St. Cloud State again Saturday night at Blazers Ice Centre in Oklahoma City at 8:30 P.M.
