    LNC

Why can't the LNC look like it did tonight for every game? It's a middle of the week game and that place was packed ! I know it was against OSU but our team deserves the kind of effort the crowd gave tonight for every home game. This team plays hard!!! We're far from the most talented team but they give everything they've got. Great crowd tonight!!!! We don't just have to be a football school!

I would kill to hear that in unison like that at a FB game. It would rule.

I have been following OU basketball for the last quarter century or so(that is 25 years for the math impaired)and it has essentially been THE GOLDEN ERA OF OU BASKETBALL and yet the spport has NEVER been consistently there for hoops.Ican't say that it will NEVER change but I have my doubts. If further proof is needed check OUr own boards. We are in the middle of basketball season and coming off a win over a RANKED(#17) and hated foe in oSu and there are 28 members on the basketball board and over 100 on the football board(football has een over for a month).YeahI know it was signing day but the disparity exists every day.I am as guilty as anyone because I live and die OU football and Iam an intrested fan of the baseball and basketball teams>Ido however follow basketball more closely than baseball.

I was there tonight. It seemed to me like 90% of the time the place was as quiet as a tomb. Near the end and during some key moments the crowd got into it but all and all I wasn't too impressed with the crowd.

It had been a few years since I last attended an OU BB game however. My last one was the infamous "shot clock" game against Tech.

Why don't we just pony up the money to build a real BB arena? The money is there or could be found with little difficulty I would imagine.

I noticed that too. What really bothered me was that a lot of them were in the lower section in DONOR SEATING.It chaps me to know that OU donors gave or sold their tickets to cowpuke fans.

I don't know if they showed it on TV but being at the game, there were about 3 rows right behind the OSU basket that I think is student seating full of OSU fans. In reality it was probably only 15 fans or so but still I don't understand how that happens.

It was ****ing me off to see the aggots there in large enough numbers to have their own poke cheering section.

Also the aggot bitz that screamed like someone had just dropped her from a high rise building when Nate made his first free throw needed to be escorted from the building or have a sock stuffed in her yap!

Aggies listen up... don't come to our house and act like you own the place. About the only thing you own is a sugar daddy and functioning alcoholics.

You would think the money's there, then you realize that we can't afford to fix our stat boards or skipping sound system.

It is just past midnight in Norman. The Sooners just got by far their best win of the year and beat their in-state rival. But there are still three times as many people reading the foolsball forums than there are viewing the basketball forums.

I do realize that yesterday was signing day and lots of people want to read about the new football recruits. But by and large most OU football fans wouldn't give a rats *** about OU basketball.

Until the Sooners win a True National Championship in basketball that won't change, and even then it might not. There are always plenty of seats for the baseball home games even though the Sooners won the college world series not that long ago.

If you don't want us there, then it's real simple. Buy the tickets.

    Re: LNC

We have this conversation every year. Unfortunately I haven't been able to go to a game since I was a student there a few years ago. But in short, LNC sucks. It's an awful venue for basketball. The top seats are too dark and the student section (at least when I was there, and from what I could tell a year or two ago, the revised version) isn't that imposing. Donors are way too close, most people prefer to sit the whole game and stand only when we make a big shot. I actually got yelled at vehemently by OU students for standing the whole game once (when I was also a student).

OU is a football school, always has been, always will be. Unfortunately basketball will probably always take a back seat, at least until we win an NC as Sleestack noted. I'd love it to be nuts in there and exciting, but it just isn't. Maybe a better venue would help (we've discussed the old field house many a time here) but the fans need to get with it one of these years and show up for every game, not just osu and UT.

Yep, very true. At the very least, don't give/sell your tickets to the opposing team's fans. I agree poke.

    Re: LNC

I think it's because LNC tries to be a multi-purpose arena, and you can't do things that would make it a better basketball arena. Namely: benches. **** chairbacks for the students. In a real college basketball arena, 3/4 of the place should be benches that encourage you to getoff your ***, just like at the football stadium. There should only be an itty-bitty section of chairbacks for the fat-cat donors, and even those should be confined to one side of the stadium - right over behind the team benches. Everything else should be benches, and the student section should ring the damn court.

Oh, and additionally, a basketball arena should be built as some sort of a rectangle, so the seats can get right up on the court. LNC is built as a circle, meaning you're left with big gaps of floor right by the court that you can't put any seats on.
    ... that's not food.

Dude, that was annoying me the whole game. I'm glad someone else noticed too. I was worried that the controllers were just getting lazy.

Also, what the heck is the deal with the student tickets? I came about thirty minutes before and the student section had filled. However, they still had tickets that were sold. They were turning us away from the section our ticket was for . We just ended up finding a place, but we got kicked out a few times and the game was well underway before we got solidified. That's just a moronic system. How the heck do you have general admission interspersed with reserved seating?

Next, I was getting into the game, so I stood up. Not 10 seconds later, a guy taps me on the back and tells me to sit down. I couldn't hardly believe it. Nothing even close to that had ever happened to me at a sporting event. What's amateur with people? I ended up having to sit on the end and stand in the stairway (first row of upper section) so I didn't get in anybody's way . Maybe this sounds like I'm overreacting, but I can't imagine something like this ever happening at GIA. However, I spend most of my time in the student section.

Anyway, I don't want to sound like I'm dogging it too much because it actually was an overall enjoyable game. LNC was very loud and I was impressed. I wasn't expecting that much noise. There was even a good push during the times when OSU was making runs. That really wasn't expected. OU had a great atmosphere there tonight.

not "real basketball arenas" built in the late 70's and early 80's when there were a lot of concerts at LNC. and watch Purdue or Illinois next time they play a home game....looks circular just like the LNC around the court and they rock.

overall, i agree with you (though i don't see benches anymore)....and i wish the new practice facilities would have been built somewhere else so we weren't married to the LNC....and then the University could have admitted we got our money's worth in 77 or whenever and made a move somewhere else....McCasland FH or across Jenkins to the South Base property....wherever.
