    Windows publisher question????

I have windows 2000. I have several documents sent to me in the publisher 2003 format that my 2000 version wll not open. The 2007 version is out and if I am gonna have to spend the money on an upgrade I figure the 07 would be the way to go...BUT...someone told me today that the 07 may change the documents format since they are originally 03, is this true or would the 07 work?
I would agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.

I've bounced back and forth between Publisher '97 and '03

Typically I have issues going backwards, but not so much going forwards.

I would expect a similar situation between '03 and '07. Does that help?

    Re: Windows publisher question????

with most of these programs, new versions will open files made by an older version, but older versions won't open anything made by newer versions. So, just like publisher 2000 won't open publisher 2003's documents, publisher 2003 won't open publisher 2007's documents.

That only becomes an issue if you want to open the documents, make changes, and send it back. Because as soon as you make the changes and save it, it becomes a publisher 2007 document.
    ... that's not food.

sometimes the file formats are made backwards capatable. also, you can save to an older version in many of the office programs.

ie, access 2003 has a access 2000 database style and a 2003 database style and actually defaults to the 2000 style.

publisher 03 can save as a publisher 2000 compatable file using the "save as" option and then selecting from the drop down (i just checked)

you might also be able to download a viewer from microsoft for free
