OU Hockey - Central Oklahoma 3, Oklahoma 2

    *** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ***

    CENTRAL OKLAHOMA 3, OKLAHOMA 2

The No. 2-ranked University of Oklahoma® Hockey club lost their first game of the 06-07 season tonight by a score of 3-2 to the Central Oklahoma Bronchos. The Bronchos came out flying and the Sooners came out flat, which did not bode well for OU. Central Oklahoma scored on the power play midway through the first period to take a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard and in terms of momentum. In the second period, Central Oklahoma scored twice more in the second period to put the Sooners in a huge hole. Oklahoma’s snipers hit a lot of goalposts and crossbars but could not find the back of the UCO net and ended up down by three goals after forty minutes of play. In the third period, the Sooners took the game to Central Oklahoma and regained the momentum. In the midst of all that activity, Oklahoma forward Doug Gebbie scored twice for OU to cut the lead to one goal late in the game. The Sooners tried to tie the game, pulling their goalie with just over a minute to go in the game. But it was not meant to be for the Sooners tonight as Central Oklahoma prevailed by a score of 3-2.

Sooners’ goaltender Aaron Schmeilski stopped 19 of Central Oklahoma’s 22 goals. Bronchos goalie Rob Mattison saw a lot of rubber fly his way, stopping 39 of 41 OU shots. OU was 0 for 5 on the power play while Central Oklahoma was 1 for 6 on the power play.

Oklahoma is now 19-1-0 on the season and is the last team in ACHA D1 play to drop from the undefeated ranks. Central Oklahoma is now 9-6-0-2. The Sooners host Central Oklahoma at the Blazers Ice Centre on Saturday night at 7:30 P.M.

Re: OU Hockey - Central Oklahoma 3, Oklahoma 2

This is just plain unacceptable Chris! We can't have Oklahoma's University losing to some dopey Normal College!

I expect to see better results tonight.
