    OU Hockey - Oklahoma 5, Arizona 4

    *** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ***

    OKLAHOMA 5, ARIZONA 4

The No. 4-ranked University of Oklahoma® Hockey club finished off their road sweep of No. 11 Arizona with a 5-4 win tonight in Tucson. Doug Gebbie got the Sooners on the board just 1:51 into the game to give OU an early 1-0 lead. The game was delayed for at least 45 minutes at 11:37 of the first period due to a broken pane of glass at the Tucson Convention Center. While the befuddled TCC staff tried to get their act together and replace the glass, both teams were sent off to the locker rooms to wait out the lengthy delay. Less than thirty seconds after play resumed, Kyle Allan put the Sooners on top 2-1 with a power play goal at 12:01. However, the Sooners’ lead was short-lived as Arizona scored 37 seconds later to tie the game at 2. Owen Brewer scored just 25 seconds into the second period to put OU up 3-2 and Jordan Novak scored at 4:55 to give OU a 4-2 lead. Oklahoma’s starting goaltender Ryan Anderson suffered a minor injury while making a save at the 5:37 mark of the second period and was replaced in net by Aaron Schmeilski for the remainder of the game. Luke Rose gave OU what appeared to be a commanding 5-2 lead when he scored just over two minutes into the third period. Arizona had different ideas though as they scored a power play goal at 5:12 of the third period and added another with 2:38 to go in the game to make the score 5-4. In their desperate effort to tie the game, the IceCats crashed the OU net during the remainder of the game, eventually running Schmeilski and setting off a physical scrum with 14 seconds left in the game as the Sooners rushed to protect their goalie. Despite Arizona’s efforts, Schmeilski and the Sooners’ defense persevered as OU hung on to win 5-4.

Oklahoma starting goaltender Anderson stopped 18 of the 20 shots he faced before being replaced by Schmeilski who stopped 27 of 29 shots. Arizona’s Nick Boddy was shelled with frozen rubber all night, stopping 49 of OU’s 54 shots. OU’s power play was 2 for 10 on the evening while Arizona went 2 for 13 with the man advantage.

The Sooners are now 15-0-0 on the season and only one of two unbeaten teams in ACHA D1. The loss drops Arizona’s record to 7-3-0-1. The Sooners return home to OKC to host ACHA D2 power Michigan State next weekend.

I know it's kind of quite here, but thanks for the post.

I do enjoy getting to read them. It also keeps it on my brain, because I would like to go to a game soon.

He's drinking some of Leo's Kool Aid, I reckon... It's got to be killing the coach that some of the top players on the Sooners are Phoenix Polar Bears that got away.

With some luck there will be some Tucson Tilt players wearing crimson next year... that's a real kick in the nuts...
