Arrow You don't see a caboose anymore

When I was a kid, it seemed like every train had a caboose.

    I don't see them anymore.

    What's up with that?

Because they don't have to pay union wages to the little gps tracker/sensor/red light thingy on the back

Re: You don't see a caboose anymore

I've noticed that for several years. Were the caboosers in charge or braking at one time?

Here's a couple for you nostalgia buffs. The red ones are cute, but I grew up with the yellow Union Pacific variety.

The only cabooses (cabeese?) you see these days are stationary unless you catch J-Lo's most recent craptacular flicks.

I had a professor last year who actually bought a caboose. I think it's in a field somewhere in Illinois, living out its golden years amid the golden corn.

I was friends with a girl when I was in HS whose family bought her a caboose to use as a playhouse.

No. I don't know why it is called thus. Additionally, I am unable to explain why it is that this particular tidbit of information is within my brain, instead of some more useful data, such as the current location of the TV remote control.

I could have used one of those in high school. A caboose or a girl-friend with a caboose.

The caboose was where the Conductor generally rode and did his paperwork. On a train, the Conductor was the top of the chain of command. My grandparents were RR people so I knew this one. Now the conductor sits in an office somewhere monitoring what looks like a giant slot car track and talking on cell phones or clicking computer keyboards.

I remember waving to the guy in the caboose as a young tike. As I grew older and in more of a hurry, it took on more of a one fingered wave.

I miss the cabooses too. Watching a train go by without a caboose is like dinner without dessert.

Didn't the conductor also watch the train for hot brakes, hence the cupola or bay window on the caboose. An electronic sensor can do that just fine today...
Everything progressives do is aimed at weakening democracy, capitalism and the social and cultural institutions that support those things...... They are about subjugating people and being a ruling class.
