OU Hockey - Oklahoma 4, Arizona State 1

    *** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ***

    OKLAHOMA 4, ARIZONA STATE 1

The No. 7-ranked University of Oklahoma® Hockey club returned home for the first time in four weeks and outlasted No. 9 Arizona State tonight by a score of 4-1. Justin Hall started the Sooners off on the right foot with a power play goal a little over 6 minutes into the game to put OU up 1-0. Owen Brewer took a nifty pass from linemate Adrian Borchgrevink on the power play and buried it into the ASU net at 12:50 of the first to give OU a 2-0 lead, a lead that would stand at the end of the period. In the second period, ASU took advantage of Sooners penalties with a power play goal to tighten the game at 2-1. The third period saw Borchgrevink get a goal of his own at 5:19 to regain OU’s two-goal cushion over the Sun Devils. ASU pulled their goaltender with a minute left in the game in an effort to bring more offensive heat on the Sooners defense. However, while playing 5-on-6 hockey, OU defenseman Mark Tylka flipped the puck out of the Oklahoma defensive zone and watched the frozen disc roll into the empty ASU goal just before a Sun Devils defender could get to it, making tonight’s final score 4-1.

Sooners goaltender Aaron Schmeilski played well in net for OU, stopping 17 of 18 ASU shots. Sun Devils goaltender Kyle Bronsteen stopped 26 of the 29 shots the Sooners threw at him during the evening. OU’s power play was 2 for 13 while ASU was 1 for 7 on the power play.

The Sooners improve to 10-0-0 on the season while Arizona State drops to 2-3-0. The Sooners face ASU again Saturday night at 8:30 P.M. at the Blazers Ice Centre.

Re: OU Hockey - Oklahoma 4, Arizona State 1

    Sweet! Go OU Pucksters!

I met a guy whose kid was on the club at the Anchorage Moose Lodge last year-I was wearing an OU Hockey shirt and he came over and talked to me about it. Can't remember the guy's name, though.

In other collegiate hockey news, UAA thought they had a pretty good team this year after starting 2-0-2 including a trip to UAF.

Last I checked, they were down 9-0 with five to go in the third tonight.
