    HVAC People

Any good HVAC people here? I need a new horizontal electric furnace.

    A. how much should I expect to pay
    B. who wants to do it
    C. when can you get here.

Last year I wanted to do this. Had 2 heat and air guys come out but neither got back to me with a bid. Are they that busy? Maybe now that new construction is slowing they might be interested.

If you move to Florida, you rarely need a heater.
That would solve half your problem.

Sorry man, it's been too long since I used people in OK. I can't remember who it was that used to do good work for me up there.

If I were you, I'd check with Locke Supply A/C division and get the names of a few small companies.

    Re: HVAC People

As I work for Rheem, I suggest you go to www.rheemac.com and look up your local Rheem Dealer.

Right now, you can qualify for tax credits if you buy an energy efficient furnace, plus we are offering an attractive financing rate - 12 Months, No Payment, Deferred Interest if you finance through our finance program.

At any rate, be sure that you get at least 3 different quotes and that they are for the SAME rated product. You should ask the Dealer for the ARI and GAMA ratings for the system you are planning to install.

    Good Luck!

The freakin' blower on our furnace refuses to turn off . . . those of you in the know is that a sign of a bad relay switch or is the entire control panel of the furnace hosed?

Oh, I did unplug the thing so it's not running all of the time now.

The systems have to work at ridiculously high pressures compared to normal systems. And the stuff costs a lot more. All companies are considering alternative systems, but some have rejected this stuff because there are too many drawbacks.

FWIW.....I'm sold on American Standard systems. Best warranties around and rated tops for residential systems.

    Re: HVAC People

You are right in that the 410-A requires a higher pressure. however, starting in 2010, that will be the mandated refrigerant that all manufacturers have to use in their cooling units. And you will probably see it a lot earlier due to availability of r-22 starting to decline. The price of r-22 will rise and r-410A will drop and there will be more and more r-410a being used.

As for the ratings of products, the Rheem Mod-90 furnace and the Rheem 14 Seer Heat Pump were both recently rated "Best Buys" by Consumer Digest. Check the October issue for more information.

That being said, American Standard does make good products. Just not as good as Rheem.

    Re: HVAC People

All companies will have to change to the new refridgerant.

Some have rejected 410-A. They think there's a better answer.
