I like the Leaf's pickups so far, but this team needs more scoring from its forwards. The defence should be much improved, and hopefully Raycroft will bounce back to his Calder Tropy form.

Roberts for $2 mil is a bit high, but the guy can still play. I think the deal will be done soon enough. They'll probably bring Lindros back for a small amount too.

    Jason Arnott stats for 05-06

    Goals: 32
    Assist: 44
    +/-: 13
    Ice time per game: 17:11

    REPLACED WITH THIS GUY?!?!?!?

    Jeff Halpern

    Goals: 11
    Assist: 33
    +/-: -8
    Ice time per game: 20:00

Arnott signs for $4.5M for 5 years in Nashville, the stars offer $4.5 for 3 years.

???????? Hey Armstrong! YOU OFFER THE 5 YEARS!

(AND DON'T GIVE TURCO A NO TRADE)

Disagree on the first. Very much agree on the second.

Turco should have never been given that extension until he proved that he could handle playoff pressure.

As for Arnott, I think he's a little too inconsistent to be given a five year deal. Hell, I think there are quite a number of players in the NHL who I wouldn't trust to give me maximum bang for my buck for five years.

Quite a few GM's are going to get screwed by the salary cap and the long range deals they gave to players who probably didn't deserve them in a few years. Which means the fiscally responsible GM's (and I think Doug Armstrong falls into this category) will benefit in a year or two.

That is, I have no problem with the Stars taking a step backwards this season to take two steps forward the next season.
Just imagine there's a really obnoxious graphical sig here

I am not ok with being the 3rd best team in the pacific.

If being better in '07-'08 is the goal, there better be some big name free agents next summer.

    1. Arnott only had a good year because it was a contract year..period.

    2. Halpern's stats are skewed because the Capitals weren't very good, and he wasn't on the Ovetchkin line otherwise he'd likely have higher offensive numbers.

    1. agree, but, why didn't they sign someone who is even a top 10 center?

    2. maybe.

and I do realize that we are 2 months away from camp, so anything can still happen, they will most likely make a couple of trades.

Here's the thing though....Marc Savard is getting grossly overpaid by the Boston Bruins because he put up a 97 point season last year. Savard's best season prior to that was 2000-01 where he put up 65 points. Why the disparity? Because he centered Marian Hossa and Ilya Kovalchuk. I could have a 90 point season centering the two of them. Basically Marc Savard suffers from what hockey people call 'Rob Brown Syndrome'.

Now can you see where I'm going with top 10 centers?
