    Arrow Spybot

Why is everybody so crazy about this program? I suppose that there may be an extremely small chance that this one program catches more spyware programs than any other software in existence.

This thing is the most unstable program I have on my computer. Whenever I check for updates, it has an 80% chance of crashing. I have just re-booted twice thanks to this thing!

Damn it! This thing has hurt me more often than it's helped me.

And let us now begin the "Have you updated gryporof.sys to version 8.98761.2536714.2716 yet?" responses.....

Seriously, if you have a legal copy of Windows (and why would anyone NOT have a legal copy of Windows, right? ha ha ha... ok, moving on) download the free Microsoft anti-spyware thing. I think they started caling it Windows Defender. It works way better than Spybot or AdAware.
    ... that's not food.

Heh. In the time I've used mozilla and derivatives, the only "spyware" I've contracted is that registry key of MS's that some spyware detectors take issue with.

I don''t have any problems with it. I use Spybot & Adware, I may have to check out this Microsoft Defender thing.

    Re: Spybot

I've never ever had a problem with Spybot but Defender catches things that Lavasoft/Spybot/Spysweeper/Spydoctor didn't catch.

I could not get used to it tying up resources, it always slowed my puter down to a crawl.

There was a bug with an older version that caused those symptoms.
Get the newest version, and you'll have no problems.

Ever since I got Spyware Blaster, Spybot (when I can get it to run) hasn't found anything.

    Get a Mac!

(wheee! I got the first "Get a Mac" post in!)

Seriously, Defender is pry the best. Vista will include it by default.

Defender will protect you from...spyware deployed by companies that don't have an "understanding" with microsoft.

I like Ewido Anti-Spyware. The free version after the 30 day trial is over with doesn't offer real time protection, and you have to manually update it, but it's scanner finds tons of crap others don't find, including Windows Defender.

    Re: Spybot

I've never really understood how people get so much spyware in the first place.

Then again, I hate crap like weatherbug and webshots and really useless stuff like that.

    Re: Spybot

My favorite is Google Toolbar. I know people who think that thing is the best thing to come along since sliced bread. Hmmm, a toolbar that tracks your surfing activities. No, there's nothing "spyware" about that. LOL!

    Here's a clue. A multi-billion dollar corporation doesn't do anything for free.
