Nice system. And Newegg is the best place to get components.

A suggestion - go with Seagate hard drives, you get a 5 year warranty with them.

Re: Building a new video editing computer

The case is interesting, but with your power consumption, I wouldn't recommend the included power supply.

I would go with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136003 for the hard drive. 16 mb cache will be better, especially on that big of a drive. And are you stripping or mirroring your drives?

I would go with mushkin memory over corsair, but that's more of a preference thing. I prefer mushkin, largely because they're about a 15 minute drive from where I live.

I would go with a better graphics card, but if your only doing video editing it should be fine.

the ones I have picked out also have a 5 year warranty

and they are RAID compatible as well, which was my "search criteria"

no, this will work just as well, or better for your editing, and is intel.

I've never seen a hd that couldn't be used in a raid. If you really want good raid hd's that are SATA, then look into wd raptor's.

I had this HD picked out first, but it didn't say anything about being able to set it up as a RAID. So I searched for "RAID" and found the one I mentioned above. I want to set it up so they will save work faster, at the same time. Is that "Striping"? I don't know. Our IT guy I talked to said "go with a RAID set up" so that's what I'm trying to do.

I don't do any gaming, and apparently this graphics card can be added on to with some kind of bridge or something. SLI I think it was.(also according to our IT guy)

Yes, striping will make it run faster, but if one drive crashes, you lose both basically. You can pick up any hard drive and configure it for raid, it's something controlled by the mainboard/raid controller, not the hard drive.

The graphics card is SLI compatable, but it's also the LE version of the chipset, which means it's been striped down to sell at a lower price. You actually get better performance from a single high end card, then from 2 low ends in SLI mode.

Re: Building a new video editing computer

I have a large external that I plan to use for backup. Hopefully I'll be ok with that.

I'll consider a better graphics card, but budget is a big concern here (I want to get all I can get, but dont' want to give my left leg for it)
