    Baseball rules question

Runners at first and third, 1 out.

Ground ball to second. Secondbaseman fields it, runner from first stops to avoid tag from 2B. 2B throws to 1B, batter is out for second out. Runner from 3rd crosses home before runner from 1st is tagged out in run-down.

If it would've been a routine DP, the run wouldn't count. Does it make any difference if the runner from second is put out after the batter is and after the runner from third crosses home?

the run counts unless the runner from first stops and makes a move back toward first then he is automatically out.

The run counts. The runner from first could stand still if he wanted; he's not out until passed by the runner (or leaving the basepath, which you didn't say). Once the force was off after throwing to first, you gotta tag that third out before the runner crosses the plate to keep the run from scoring.

So it's a force thing? Thanks

    Re: Baseball rules question

If a third out is caused by a force out or by doubling somebody off a base, then a run cannot be scored.

Only if it's a tag play.

There is one exception I believe where a 'fourth' out would need to be recorded before the defensive team leaves the field.

Let's say there's one out with runners on the corners. Batter hits what appears to be a bloop hit into the outfield so both runners take off. Right Fielder dives and catches the ball, looks up at the closest base which is first base, and lobs the ball to the first baseman covering who easily doubles off the runner from first.

Before that out is recorded, however, the runner from third crosses home plate.

I think is this situation, the defensive team has to stay on the field and throw the ball over to the third baseman to double the runner from third off to negate the run.

Though I might be wrong here.
Just imagine there's a really obnoxious graphical sig here
