Conservative Stuff I'm Buying a New Gaming PC Today

I would tell you what it is but then I'd have to listen to all the pencil necked geek know it all one-upmanship saying you shouldn't have done that and I would get a _____ instead BS.

It will have a pretty cool 21'' monitor though and for the money I'm very happy.

The wife gets that piece of crap I bought last Christmas.

I would have gotten the 32" monitor. It's much cooler.

Dude, you should've gone for the 23" flat panel. But I'm sure yours is nice too.

And if it's not a dual core 4Ghz then it really can't be considered a gaming machine.

Future ones will Besides, if you have an OS that takes advantage, then it can schedule the game on the second core, and everything else on the first core, so "everything else" isn't sucking resources the game could be using.

As far as 2GB v. 4GB goes... if you don't need it now, don't bother. By the time you DO need it, the RAM will likely be much cheaper and you can always upgrade then.

They also told me the processor I was getting was a 64 bit, I think, and it will be able to run the new Windows OS.
That's a lot of words for me to remember though.

    AMD?

I'm getting ready to build a new one, and plan on using a new dual core 64 bit AMD processor. RAWR

    Yep, AMD.
That's my first but I got convinced it was far better than a comparable Intel in my price range.

    and?

AMD pawns Intel when it comes to Gaming (and most anything else)

    IMO

Re: I'm Buying a New Gaming PC Today

shrug, for the time being, 64 bit is meaningless in the Windows world. Almost nobody crunches numbers large enough to justify it, almost nobody has filesystems large enough, almost nobody has memory banks large enough.

The real key to the AMDs being better is that the architecture is better. The cores are directly connected at core clock speed instead of having to communicate via the system bus (which is typically much slower than the CPU speed), and iirc, the cores also have distinct connections to the memory banks scaling the amount of memory bandwidth with each CPU/core installed -- assuming the motherboard has sufficient connections to allow for this.
