    Re: Olympic opening ceremony

I think a lot of it has rocked. Seriously, the alpine stuff with cows mooing (and dancing around) and people wearing tiny flagpoles, and then the girls carrying the nations' banners wearing skirts that look like mountains with trees and skiers stuck on the dress...

Italians crack me up. This stuff is hilarious.

    Re: Olympic opening ceremony

My partial list of reasons why the opening ceremonies rock:

    1) Fire
    2) Old guys pretending to play alpine horns
-With flag poles on their backs
-With mooing noises in the background
    -With cows on wheels!
-with ballroom dancers wearing cow print costumes
    3) More fire
    4) A dance routine that made music from the Producers go through my head
    5) Flailing dancers in the shape of a heart
    6) Skaters with flaming helmets
    7) People making the shape of a skiier
    8) The theme from Rocky
    -Played by MAYNARD FERGUSON
    9) People in Napoleon looking outfits
    10) Funky rock music to march to instead of dreary, solemn marches
    11) Australians
    12) Chicks in dresses that look like frickin ski slopes!!

Pavarotti ended the whole business by singing Nessun Dorma. The whole show was very operatic - totally over-done and outrageous. and that's why it rocked.

It jumped the shark with Yoko Ono showing up....or did it jump with Susan Sarandon?

Yoko can't even read aloud without it sounding like someone is torturing a cat.

Can we just replay this opening ceremony in four years, I think the Chinese set a bar on spectacularity. I'm not one that is easily impressed but I found myself jawdropped at times.

first time i've ever watched an opening ceremony and i was blown away. that dude running on air around the top of the stadium was impressive. the massive torch wasn't even originally a part of the stadium. it just magically opened up.

those thousands of guys doing tai chi was the best part.

That little kid that was with Yao Ming looked like he was about 4 instead of 9. Maybe it is because Yao Ming is 8 feet tall.
