    scheduled maintenance on your cars....

How many of you have the scheduled maintenance on your car done at the dealer? I am fast approaching 60k and I'm thinking I would rather throw my business to mastertech rather than Fowler.

If something does happen in the next 15k, will Toyota try to get out of the warranty because the scheduled maintenance wasn't done at the dealership?

Generally, so long as you've got records showing that the recommended maintenance was performed by an ASE certified mechanic, you should be cool.

If you're worried about stuff that might happen at around 75k miles, I'm thinking you may have gotten an extended warranty. If so, Froze is probably still right... but you may want to check the warranty anyway.

Depending on the maintenance, you would save a TON of money doing it yourself. If you do, keep all of the receipts to the parts or oil & filter or spark plugs or anything else.

The Magnuson-Moss Act sez that they can't require you to have the work done at the dealership. Well, not in so many words, but it's in there.

That being said, it was an easy choice for me. Crown, where I've had poor service Every Damn Time I've tried to give them a chance, or European Autospecialist, where they do what they say they're going to do and when they're going to do it and they stand behind their work.

Exactly, but the dealership still gets away with charging outrageous prices for items you can only get at the dealership. They make it very difficult for the backyard mechanic to do his own maintenance.

I've never had a scheduled maintenance done at the dealer. If i cannot change oil, air and fuel filter I shouldn't have a weiner.

bigger stuff I would let yer trusted mechanic take care of.

I took my car to the dealership until the day the warranty ran out. since then, I've been lucky enough to find a mechanic thats been more than honest with me. As such mechanics are sometimes hard to find (I've been to 3 others around here that weren't so honest), I am more than happy to give my mechanic my business. usually he's cheaper than anywhere else.

What is this "scheduled maintenance" thing? I usually take care of all that stuff at the same time I'm taking care of the UNscheduled maintenance.

On a related note: If anyone is looking for a good mechanic in Norman, Mastertech has always been very fair with me, my wife and my sister.
