    Stoops comments on Wyatt's departure...

NORMAN — Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops issued the following
statement today regarding the departure of OU wide receivers coach
Darrell Wyatt for the Minnesota Vikings ...

"We are all happy for Darrell and his family. He feels the NFL is the
direction he wants to go and we are supportive of him reaching his
goals. We are all appreciative of the work he did here in coaching our
receivers. He developed a great number of excellent players, and as
    also a strong recruiter.

"There are a number of directions we can go in hiring his replacement.
We will work through those in the coming weeks. I don't feel any extra
urgency. The receivers who have committed to us are very strong in
their commitments and understand that our offensive scheme will continue
to work in the same way. They're confident in our system and in the
strength of the teams we have coming up."

Wyatt just completed his fourth season at OU as the receivers coach.
Prior to last season, he also added the title of passing game
    coordinator.

    ---------

WYATT cited his time at Oklahoma as a springboard to the NFL and issued
    this statement ...

"I had a great experience at Oklahoma and have been part of a great
staff with Bob. Bob and Carol (Stoops) have been so good to me and my
family, and the support from the fans has been tremendous.

"I leave with a strong team in place for next season, and a team that
can make another championship run. I enjoyed the experience at Oklahoma and I can't tell you how much it has meant to my career. Being at Oklahoma definitely increased my opportunities in this profession and I
want to thank Bob and the university for the tremendous support.

"It's tough to leave, but I felt this was a great opportunity. I get to
join a new staff on the front end of a new contract. I look forward to
the challenge on the next level.

"I feel like all our recruits are in good hands and I have encouraged
all of them to stay with Oklahoma. I feel confident that Bob will hire
a great coach and this will still be a great opportunity for the young
men who have committed to OU. Like I said, I feel the program is in
position to make another championship run."

It's amazing the coaching factory we've become. How many years since 99 have we had an entire coaching staff intact from one year to the next?

Mangino left after the 2000 season, right? Mike Stoops went to Arizona after the 2003 season. Chuck Long to SDSU & now Wyat to the NFL after 2005. Somebody had to have gone on after the '02 and '04 years.

Maybe Switzer still has a passion for recruiting. He did that better than he did anything (related to football). He could be full-time recruiting guru. He sure could charm those black superstars away from DKR.

He didn't have to charm much. I'm reading "What It Means To Be A Sooner" and Billy Sims said he, Thomas Lott and several others didn't feel comfortable going to UT as black players, and this was mid to late 70's.

Yeah I second that one. I disliked Pelini more than Chuck Long.
