    NCAA Qualification

Okay, I need somebody to explain this to me. Maybe I am a little slow here, but the NCAA requires a GPA matched with an SAT/ACT score. Now, I know that the ACT has a cap at 36, but the scores are all higher than that. An example is that with a 2.8 GPA you need a 57 on the ACT.

The reason I ask is that DeMarco Murray is reporting a 2.8 GPA and a 16 on the ACT. What does he need to get?

    Re: NCAA Qualification

the ncaa adds the scores of the individual sections whereas the composite ACT score is a rounded up or down number.

    Re: NCAA Qualification

lets see, i took 4 years of english
    2 1/2 years of history (1/2 world, 1/2 oklahoma, american, 1/2 government)
5 years of science - physical science, biology, chemistry, physics, chem II
4 years of math - geometry, alg II, trig/pre-calc, calculus

so i have 3 years of english
    2 years of science
    2 years of math
    2 extra years of math

social science? i took drafting, typing, and crap like that (no foreign languages)

i cleared the clearinghouse in the summer of my freshman year. apparently, i wouldn't qualify now...

Murray will have no problems qualifying. The reported test scores are incorrect or out of date.

    Re: NCAA Qualification

So, the composite score is what the ACT uses?

That would mean that a student would need to get a minimum score, by NCAA standards, of 19 to achieve the 37 composite (which you need for a 3.550 or higher GPA).

    http://www.actstudent.org/scores/norms1.html

I'm still confused, and I'm not an academically struggling student-athlete trying to qualify.

Correct, but isn't the composite what the NCAA is using for athletic qualification?
