his 'out' pitch is a slider, but when he needs to he has a nasty Curve... I wish I could remember who it was that had a curve that started out around shoulder high and had a nasty dip down to the knees back in the 80s/90s

When he's not pitching like he's afraid of his pitching ability, Jose Contreras has a pretty nasty curve too.

    Re: Nastiest?

Santana's money pitch is his changeup. It's as ridiculous as any I've ever seen.

Kerry Wood's curve isn't nearly as good as most because it has too much of a 9-3 motion. If he misses inside to righthanders it's big trouble because it goes right to the heart of the dish. The good curves, like the one Darryl Kile used to throw, were always 12-6.

Today, I'd go with Oswalt. His is real sharp. The best ever? No contest---Bert Blyleven. It was like somebody pulled a table out from under it.

And you're right. He does have a fantastic curveball. It's all set up on the tremendous leverage his pitching motion provides him. I'm not sure anyone has a sharper break than he does.

Barrry Zito used to have a great one. Similar to Roy's slow, big 12-6 break.

Actually, a 6 to 12 curve would defy logic (and gravity).
