OU Penn State Graduate WR Geno Lewis to Transfer to Oklahoma

... Justin Brown worked out fine ... Now we have another receiver outside of Westbrook ...

Penn State's new quarterback will have one less receiver to throw to in 2016.

Former Wyoming Valley West quarterback and Lions' redshirt junior receiver Geno Lewis has announced that he will grad transfer out of the program and finish his college career at Oklahoma.

"This was not an easy decision but I feel like it is time to move on to the next chapter of my life, Lewis wrote in a released statement.

"Penn State will always be in my heart, and no one can ever take that away."

Lewis' decision comes as little surprise after he said following the program's 24-17 loss in the TaxSlayer Bowl that he was considering not coming back.

His decision was likely driven by many factors, and one of them was the possibility of a reduced role in 2016. Lewis appeared in all 13 games in 2015, starting three, and put up 17 catches for 196 yards and three touchdowns, but his role was unclear going forward with freshman receivers Irvin Charles and Juwan Johnson set to come off redshirt seasons.

The most memorable play of Lewis' career will arguably be his 79-yard touchdown grab against Central Florida in Dublin, Ireland in 2014, which stood as the program's longest passing play from scrimmage that season. He also made a key catch against Rutgers two years ago that put the Lions in position to beat the Scarlet Knights on the road.

I like that he is a senior, but if he left for fear of competition from 2 freshman at Penn State....(just sayin)

....that, plus Penn State loses its senior QB should be taken into account. I'm sure he'd rather be a receiver to a potential Heisman candidate than to a newbie in his last year of eligibility.

Re: Penn State Graduate WR Geno Lewis to Transfer to Oklahoma

Lewis graduated from Penn State with a degree in human development and family studies, so he will be eligible to compete immediately for the Sooners.

After Penn State’s loss to Georgia in the TaxSlayer Bowl, Lewis told reporters that he was considering a graduate transfer. Lewis had his best game of the season in the bowl with three catches for 53 yards and a touchdown, but his role in the offense diminished this season.

He finished with 17 catches for 196 yards and three scores this season, far below the 55 catches for 751 yards he had in 2014. He also had 18 catches for 234 yards and three scores as a redshirt freshman in 2013.

With PSU’s top two receivers, Chris Godwin and DaeSean Hamilton, returning, plus the influx of young talent at the position, Lewis decided to move on. Oklahoma is losing two of its top three receivers – Sterling Shepard and Durron Neal – so Lewis will likely have a good shot at increased playing time in Norman.

Lewis is the second Penn State receiver to transfer to OU in recent years. Justin Brown transferred to Oklahoma in 2012 for his final season and put up 73 catches for 879 yards and five touchdowns – all career highs.

More competition at WR is probably a good thing for next year, but he doesn't look like the prize we got with Justin Brown. Can he return punts?

Why would we want to return a punt? Too risky...

How good are the other two receivers? Maybe we should start looking at PSU as our farm team.

Why don't we just start getting some of these guys out of HS so they can learn the system? That being said, maybe some success from these transfers will lead to more opportunities/open door up there.

Did he really only have 156 yards last year after a (mostly) healthy season?

Maybe the kid just needs a change of scenery. He hasn't beaten a girl or been caught selling or using dope, so this type of transfer is fine.

Don't have to worry about the kids from Penn State - the coaches on the other hand...

We don't return punts so it doesn't really matter.

I know your being cynical, but it wasn't that long ago that we did. (Justin Brown, Jalen Saunders)
