Ha, I never considered that aspect of flying new years day.

As it turned out, it wasn't hung over flight attendants. It was incompetence. According to one of the flight attendants that worked the flight, American Airlines simply didn't schedule any flight attendants to work the flight. The reason nobody showed up was because nobody was scheduled to show up.
