Is it a requirement in the SEC official policy and procedure manual that the football programs in that conference claim 3 times the number of true consensus national titles they have actually won? If you add up all the national titles the fans of the various programs in the SEC claim the total would be more than 12 hundred national titles even though college football has only been played for 146 years in the US.

Fanin, I considered this issue for some time and finally concluded that it's not intentional. It's simply that folks from 'round there don't understand cypherin' real good. Once you get above 'two' they kinda lose track of the difference.

It think part of the issue is that the members count wins from any past and current members of the SEC in their numbers. When they figure out how to count for future members, these numbers will start increasing even faster.
Boosters, big money donors are usually in line with fan sentiment. They don't call it the "Monster" for nothing. It must be fed.
