He's supposed to be a nice guy these days. And he was, for a brief shining moment, the finest running back of all time. In the proper uniform. If I wasn't previously engaged, I might think of going.

I wouldn't pay money, but it might influence where I went to drink that night.

    Either way, good question.

Meh. Turn loose of it. It was a generation ago. And from what little I know, the guy speaks well of OU, acknowledges that he screwed up and drives a truck to support himself rather than wallowing in NFL retirement.
You have to let these things go at some point.

I reserve the right to keep hating on DKR, that filth eating traitor, however.

My wife bought me his jersey number after we attended the CU-OU
game in Boulder when a 235# running back returned a punt for a 65
yard touchdown..it was a thing of beauty! (Got some chin music from
those terrific Boulder citizens after they saw my Sooner colors) on
the way to the parking lot....

ESPN's 30 for 30 have done wonders for Dupree and Boz in the PR department with many OU fans. It gave them a public forum to admit their mistakes of decades ago and move on.

But yeah, I don't actively seek out retired players much. It seems they like to just lead normal lives and stay out of the spotlight.

Because he gave us a lot of fond memories when he played at OU. I stopped by the sports bar at the Hard Rock tonight and chatted with him for a few minutes. He's a real nice guy and lots of fans stopped by to say hello to him.

I've been watching the OU History series, and Barry Switzer said that Dupree was one of the mosted gifted running backs he had ever seen, but he lacked one thing....mental toughness!

He must have found that mental toughness later as he was able to play 2 seasons in the NFL.

I think his willingness to get back in shape and play in the NFL after five years of no football shows that he did. He was no longer the self-entitled kid he was at OU.

He was without a doubt the best I've seen next to Adrian Peterson. Had he been mentally tougher, he'd have been similar to the great running backs of that era - Earl Campbell, Billy Sims, Herschel Walker, and Bo Jackson.

He had home run speed with the power of an ox. He was like a combination of Campbell and Sims - Campbell's power and Sims' speed. It was fun to watch...while it lasted.

The other one I saw from back in the day that could have been one of the greatest was Mike Gaddis. If not for injuries.... We were sitting almost at the exact spot where he blew his knee out in the '89 Texas game.

It was heartbreaking. Gaddis was dominating that game, and we were driving into Texas territory. He really was something special. Same gifts as Campbell, Sims, Walker, and Jackson.

Also recall that '88 OSU game where that OSU WR dropped the winning TD on 4th down at the end of the game. Barry Sanders had his usual Heisman level performance, but Gaddis pretty much matched that on the OU side. Heck of a game.

He and Sanders both went for 200+ that day. If I remember correctly, they finished within about five yards of each other, with Sander having just a few more.

Gaddis ran for 200+ against Oklahoma State three times in his career. I think he's the only Sooner to run for 200+ against a single opponent three times.
