Make one touchdown catch in a bowl game and now he may be in the rotation as tight end.

McGowan’s rise from backup offensive lineman to pass-catching sensation has been well documented. He caught an 18-yard touchdown pass against Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl, which pretty much broke the Internet, and has been working with the tight ends ever since. Baylor even posted a video of him making several one-handed catches during warmups before a spring practice.

Probably only see him in short yardage situations.

I'm not so sure..a guy that big catch a pass 3-4 yards into the
secondary and turn up field...how many 200# safeties and/or
corners gonna get in front of him....I'm guessing not many so
he'd have to get tripped up from the side or behind...might gain
some yardage....maybe run a play like that once a game....

Seriously, I can see this guy having success. He's 6'7", so although 410 is a huge amount of weight, he could probably carry at least 300 and be mega fit. So he's more like a natural 180 guy running at 225 or so.
Whether he catches the ball or not, he's going to provide problems for defenses on running plays around the end. You're simply going to have to pick inside or outside, because you're not going to move him around.

It's a gimmick.

He did have a TD catch last year, but it was out of a trick play (he lined up over tackle). The dude is a mountain of a man, and I'm kinda looking forward to seeing him in action.

Here's the problem though; it's not going to catch anyone off guard. Sure, he can be punishing to tackle, but there's not a LB or CB in the conference that couldn't cover the guy. So, the first problem is getting him the football. After that, it's going to be all about hitting him as low as possible, because nobody is going to 'blow him up'.

Even with the downsides, I'm anxious to see what he can do....not so much against us though.

That's going to be a tall task on his part. Now that everyone knows, he's going to be treated as a TE when he lines up in that position, and that means he'll be covered by either a linebacker or defensive back. That's going to make it awfully hard to catch the ball on his part.

The trick play value has been realized already. They should use him as a FB in short yardage situations.
