Good find. And I don't buy it.
I don't buy it either.
I don't consider him a Sooner and I can't imagine him saying "OU" when he gets that little intro spot at the beginning of an NFL game (assuming he makes a starting roster). I'm not bitter, he just didn't have an impact that I can see. He certainly didn't improve the CB play by going against them in practice unless you count getting them used to being burned.
Whether he said he was going pro before the official announcement of Norvell's canning or not doesn't really matter. I'm sure Jay knew for at least a few days before it happened.
News of Norvell's firing was reported by the Oklahoman on January 4.

ESPN reported on January 6 that DGB was turning pro.

So...there might be some to a bit more than that truth to it.
I recall there was a Stoops presser where he admitted that DGB was considering the draft. I thought that was in December last year, but I'm not certain. I remember thinking to myself that "DGB is gone for sure" when he said it because Stoops had always said "I assume DBG will be here" at previous pressers. There was also a poster on LT that claimed to know DBG and said that DBG intended to play for OU next year until he got his projected draft grade. That caused him to reconsider and Norvell was never mentioned as a reason in that thread.
No. Whoever told him to say that is intelligent, though.
The "news" of DGB going pro came out on the 6th, but it was already widely rumored that he had made his decision. I believe the draft board sent their letters earlier in January. I suspect he got a 1st round grade and made the decision then. I don't think Norvell had anything to do with it.
If you get a 1st round grade as a junior, there's a 99% chance you're going pro.
I'm not saying it's true, or that it was the only factor, but it may have been *a* factor.
Certainly could have been a factor. In fact, I think he made the right call regardless of how he felt about Norvell. DGB transferred last year to a team that had a stable coaching staff and appeared ready to challenge for a CFP spot. When he declared, the co-OCs had been fired and the rest of the staff was being shuffled and he had a deadline to commit before he could know how things would work out. So unless DGB had given his word to Stoops he would stay, I don't see how he could decide otherwise.
Nope.
