The important thing is that ESPN is now saying that. Whether they remember that next fall remains to be seen.

Honestly I think Bama fans have a right to be highly annoyed with ESPN and their conference brethren about this. This perception has largely been borrowed from the success of your program. This is even more apparent after their dramatic about-face following your loss to Ohio State last night. What should be seen as a modern-day Bama dynasty has been sold as a SEC dynasty. In selling that fraud, both ESPN and others in your conference have spread a tremendous accomplishment into a thin lie.

The enduring image of Oklahoma was that ridiculous double–middle finger of a game-icing kick. It was probably an accident, which somehow made it more, not less, insulting. It was as though Stoops had partied so hard on the corpse of the SEC that he woke up with an unplanned tattoo.

Bama was a huge part in it ... but Florida chipped in some MNCs, LSU had success, as did Auburn ... and three SEC schools had Heisman winners in that span. Bama was the lead dog, but not the only dog.

Yeah, but nobody would have noticed the other dogs if they weren't spreading Bama's credibility around.

Yep. SEC dominance was always about Nick Saban and Urban Meyer. Everyone else got a perception bump because of those 2 guys.

Just wait until the Harbaugh/Meyer duo does wonders for the Big 10's rep. I wonder what that will look like. Obviously won't be the same because Fox owns the Big 10 Network and not ESPN.

Yep, ESPN will choose another anointed from its conference partners and the process will start anew. IF they don't just revert back to the same old song and dance next August.

The streak was Florida (Meyer), LSU (Miles), Florida (Meyer), Bama (Saban), Auburn (Chizik), Bama x2 (Saban) ... and Auburn played for it last yr under Malzahn but lost.

Most likely the game will even out some ... it's best for the sport to have powers in all the major conferences and real excitement in the bowl season. The SEC isn't going anywhere ... and that's a good thing ... it's good though that the Pac-12 has it's shot and it's good for the sport if the Big-10 is relevant. The ACC has some work to do and OU and Texas need to get it together.

Yes. LSU and Auburn were part of the streak. LSU in a year where no one stood out (LSU had 2 losses...not even "good" losses at that). And then Auburn (we'll say Cam Newton instead of Chizik).

Agreed - as I said, the SEC will get their share. One only needs to look at the stream of players they send to the NFL who succeed at that level and the huge fan bases that support the teams. But even if there is a difference in conference strength, that difference gets razor thin when you look at the very best teams in each conference. That difference can be negated a good game plan or just one player having a lights-out performance. Yes, OU (and maybe the horns, grrr) need to get their act together and join in the fun.
