    Baker Mayfield RS Year?

Is there any chance that he can appeal to some powers that be in the Big 12 or NCAA that he be allowed to use this year as his RS year? My understanding is that because it was an in conference transfer he will only have two years of eligibility left. If he were allowed to use this season as a RS year he would have three years of eligibility left.

I think that has been denied. He will be a Jr. next year.

The time to appeal would be after his eligibility expires, not till then. Who knows? Maybe he's be a world beater go to the NFL after a Sooner season with DGB... or he could have a worse experience than at Tech (if that's possible) and try to transfer again. A lot can happen between now and whenever he'd need another year

What a screw job by the NCAA! Texas Tech didn't want him, but when he went to a rival, they put in a monkey wrench to try and stop him. Imagine playing five games (and win) and they didn't even offer him a scholarship. What a horrible school! Low class in everything they do!

He definitely got screwed, but it all starts with the way Tech handled the situation.

It's a good rule, when it's applied correctly. Non-scholarship walk-on players shouldn't be subjected to the transfer rule.

I could get on board with him not being immediately eligible. But, not the two years.

Yeah, the loss of a year is where he really got screwed. Make him sit out a year, that's fine, but why should he have to forfeit a year of eligibility?

I wouldn't be surprised if this scenario isn't addressed over the next couple of years (within the P5 structure). I also wouldn't be surprised if a 'walk-on' exception is created, and Mayfield ends up getting that year back. This rule is so ridiculous (as it applies to walk-ons), that once the P5 takes a good look at it, they should be able to see the obvious and make the change.

Bah, those ncaa yes men can't decipher all of the outdated rules in their books so they blindly make decisions, believing those directly affected will feel they're looking out for the athletes best interests.
