So, with Keith Ford out, who will be the #3 back?

Not that I think we have to use 3 backs, but I suspect we'll have a 3rd ready to go (and may see a few carries). There are only two options:

    R-Soph David Smith 5'10", 205 lbs
    R-Soph Daniel Brooks 5'8", 185 lbs

Neither were able to make much of a move up the roster this summer, but I think both could be useful. They are both in their third year in the system, so that's a plus, but there's probably a good reason why we haven't seen David Smith to this point. He's got the size, and looks the part, but other than some special teams, he hasn't seen any carries. Brooks actually got a carry in the LaTech game (for 2 yards), and also plays special teams. Brooks is small, but has speed. I actually thought he may have been moved to WR at some point, but that hasn't happened.

Thoughts? Will we even see a third back this weekend?

I believe it will be Brooks.

I'd like to see Dimitri Flowers get some carries in now

I doubt we'll see a third back this weekend - JH doesn't seem to trust RBs easily. I assume that is because of pass blocking duties.

This seems like a real possibility. I know they liked to get Millard in there at TB from time to time, and the coaches seem to be pretty high on Flowers since they're making that comparison. That also gives us another bruiser to get some carries, which Brooks and Smith don't seem to be. Having Ross and Perine carry most of the load, with Flowers in for a series or two at TB, wouldn't surprise me a bit.

I think Daniel Brooks. He brings a different style with burner speed, but also agree Dimitri Flowers will play a bigger role.

Trevor Knight... who still needs a nickname as cool as "Belldozer"

That wouldn't surprise me either. He's proven he can play, and Ripkowski can certainly hold up the FB position.

I tend to lean toward Brooks (if we even see a 3rd back), just because he's probably good enough to start at half the teams in the conference.

I have a feeling Ross will have a break out game. Samaje will be his sure and steady self. I think we will see a little triple option a few times with Sterling trailing and Flowers ready for the shuttle pass. There will be more designed plays for Trevor on draws up the middle. I think deep in the 4th qtr when the game is in hand we will see Brooks.
