Uncle Sam: The Middle East's Useful Idiot

Beware the man who would rule you for your own good. He will never cease. He will regulate every aspect of your life, destroy your liberty and enslave you, and sleep well convinced that he has made the world a better place.

I started to post the link in the thread about allowing your children join the military but thought it was prescient enough to warrant a separate thread.

"The Iranians must wake up every morning and thank Allah that they have an enemy like the United States, which installed their clients in Baghdad, and who is now going to fight their insane Sunni enemy for them. And by the way, what about the regime in Saudi Arabia (the one that just arrested a bunch of Christians for meeting to pray)? Americans are risking their lives again to make the world safe for the lunatic Islamic country whose sons brought down the World Trade Center and destroyed part of the Pentagon. Once again, people who do not have our best interests in mind are willing to hold our coat while we do the fighting for them."

A whole bunch of this right here.

    Can't add much to that.

So where are the Middle East countries in Obama's new coalition? Will Obama stick to his principles and make the Iranians and Saudi's clean up their own mess?

We need to learn not to get sucked in to religious and political civil wars.

Excellent article and reflects not just the truth now, but what has been true for a long time. Just the names of the players get shuffled around occasionally. As long as we come swooping in with our military to help our "friends", they are not going to lift a finger (or shed their own blood) to help themselves. But our very presence in the area is a huge recruiting tool for all these terrorist groups that seem to spring up on a weekly basis. Wash, rinse, repeat. Bin Laden is laughing from his grave at us.

It's easy to blame Obama or Bush or the hawks in congress like McCain. But the real culprit is in the mirror. The populous is in the US scared and believes that fighting terrorist over there with our military keeps them from coming over here. Our spineless representatives in Washington are just reflecting our collective fear. I believe the opposite is true as our presence keeps us the common enemy to unite against in a area where it is very hard to unite anyone. It's a tough situation largely of our own making and it would require a long term strategy to change this into something rational that really is in our best interest. But election cycles are basically 2 years and that makes committing to the long term nearly impossible.

Boulder, I am in complete agreement. That is why I find it so difficult to offer up my son or daughters as a sacrifice to enable the ignorance and laziness of American society and culture to continue.

Wake me up when they send any of their citizens to Iraq to fight against the threat.

So much smarts in this post! Thanks...Ike was the first post WWII prez to dabble
in stuff...(300 "advisors" in 'Nam in 1958) and it hasn't stopped since...every where
we go something bites us...the Shah, Nasser, Saddam, Sadat, Begin, so on and so on..
IMHO, the Middle East could be solved with an aggressive campaign of "The End" as
you know it is coming...and here's how..tell the Isrealis to listen up, everyone else
reach over and grab your ankles so you can kiss your a$$ goodbye, turn that region
to radiated glass, so that the rest of the world can continue to function and after a few
hundred "half lives" repopulate, long after this generation has tried to solve a 3000 year
feud. Maybe then, "we can get along"....ummmm, 'scuse me whilst I git nother beer...

    http://www.theamericanconservative.c...a-bombs-blind/

The famous Founding Fathers’ warnings against entangling alliances are often considered pertinent for America’s ties to Israel, and of course they are: one point Summers and Swann make is that all of Saudi Arabia—from the top government ministers to the 9/11 hijackers—was enraged and repulsed by Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians and America’s complicity in it. (This fact was considered but watered down in the 9/11 official report, out of fear that it might cause some to question the value of the “special relationship” with Israel.) But it seems obvious that a Saudi “special relationship” may be just as detrimental to America’s real interests. In any case, it should be up for discussion. For starters, before we bomb anyone, let’s unclassify the 28 pages of the 9/11 report, and discuss the nature of our ties to Saudi Arabia. Then we can decide how much to rely on Saudi Arabia as our principle Muslim ally in combatting ISIS.

If anyone thinks that that Saudi Arabia is our 'principle Muslim ally' they simply do not know what they are talking about...guaranteed!!!

How true. The royal family will fall from power eventually - it is inevitable. When that happens, it will become evident that 98% of the Saudi populous hates the USA and resents us supporting the royal family for all those years.

Re: Uncle Sam: The Middle East's Useful Idiot

The House of Saud has been playing the US since WWII. Jumping back into the middle east's sectarian issues are playing into the hands of anyone who opposes us. Our hand are certainly, not clean over there. But I feel the supporting the intervention is wrong and cannot do it. It will fail and will simple be adding more fuel to the fire of anti US sentiment all while solving nothing. zero...
