2014: Sooners on award "watch" lists (Updated with ESPN Pre-season All Americans)

The first official watch list has been released, and it's the Ronnie Lott Impact Award. The 'first cut' includes 42 athletes. The Lott IMPACT Trophy® was established by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation® to honor college football’s Defensive IMPACT® Player of the Year.

Eric Striker is the OU representative on this year's list.

Although Las Vegas recently released their "odd to win the Heisman" info, and Trevor Knight is on the list, I figured we'd just include actual award watch lists here.

I will update as more come out.

Re: 2014: Sooners on award "watch" lists

    Several updates:

Blake Bell - Don Mackey Award (TE)
Taylor McNamara - Don Mackey Award (TE)
Michael Hunnicutt - Lou Groza Award (K)
Trevor Knight - Maxwell Award (QB)
Zack Sanchez - Jim Thorpe Award (DB)
Frank Shannon - Bednarik Award (Best Defensive Player)
Eric Striker - Bronco Nagurski Trophy (Best Defensive Player), Bednarik Award (Best Defensive Player), Ronnie Lott Award (Defensive "Impact" Player)
Charles Tapper - Bronco Nagurski Trophy (Best Defensive Player), Bednarik Award (Best Defensive Player)
Daryl Williams - Outland Trophy (Interior Lineman)

These lists are getting a little pointless, as it seems they just pick players from every top 25ish team and stick them on the list. Obviously some of these guys deserve to be on their respective lists (Striker, Tapper, etc.), but some are questionable (Bell and McNamara?). Nonetheless, it's good to see our guys getting some national attention.

I'm sure we'll all be watching Bell, but Mackey Award watch? Really? Maybe after his first play from scrimmage it would make sense

I understand the McNamara thing - his one catch was against mighty 'Bama.

When I saw that, the first thing I thought was "Bell & McNamara have one catch between the two". I know McNamara was highly recruited nationally, and we all know Bell has great resolve, but this may be just a tad premature. But, who am I to argue with the "experts"?!

Eric Striker was named to the ESPN Pre-Season All-American list.

Michael Hunnicut, Daryl Williams and Eric Striker were names to the ESPN Pre-Season All-Conference list.

With Striker on so many lists, it'll be hard for him NOT win
one....these lists mean a lot more at mid season, when the
lists are culled....leastwise that's what Capn Obvious sez..

With every game video available almost everywhere, I don't even know what purpose these lists serve. If a guys has a great year, it will be noticed very quickly even if he is an unknown. Maybe it helps with O-Line guys as they tend to get ignored unless they mess up.
