I kinda don't see the point of gambling with fake money???

The bigger the game, the bigger the participation. OU football games are definitely the events that can draw well over a hundred unique betters. Pro-sports are much less popular, often under a dozen unique betters, even for playoffs. Stuff like volleyball, wrestling, etc... barely move the needle. Men's basketball tends to get in the 20's, though clearly there's much higher participation for big games and tournament games. It just depends. If the bets are well considered, occasionally generous, up in a timely fashion, and settled in a timely fashion, it works. Obviously there has to be some marketing done to get the word out.
VBookie is a very popular mod, mostly on sports boards. Some of these boards have hundreds and even thousands of participants. And there was once a time, in the very early life of vBookie, when if you googled 'vBookie' the first link that came up was to the Soonerfans betting forum. So it's not like it can't be an ever bigger draw than it already was. Just takes a bit of work and consistency to be a lot of fun.
