I do fault Fox for being so openly pro-Republican but I do see more willingness on their part to hold the GOP accountable for their trangressions of being wimpy on sticking with their principles. The Democrats, OTOH, have no one holding them accountable. Conservative voters tend to stay engaged on the issues 24/7. Most Democratic voters stop Face Booking and watching Oprah long enough to vote every 4 years. That's why the Dems do relatively better during the Presidential election cycles and Fox news consistently crushes the liberal cable networks in ratings.

If I wanted to be frightened I would tune into MSNBC and listen to the hosts on that network work themselves up into a frenzy over what they think it would take to reach liberal nirvana in this country. Me, myself and I have decided what issues are most important to me. The deficit tops that list. Fox talks about what needs to be done. MSNBC and the other maonstream networks rarely talk about it unless it is in the context of demonizing Obama's opposition on the issue. "Damn Teapartiers. "

This is true to a slight degree. Nonetheless, the commentary and analysis from their opinion shows is decidedly 'right-wing' and not necessarily 'conservative.'

There is no unbiased news sources (I'm not sure there ever was), but it's gotten to the point that it seems most of the news channels don't even try to hide it anymore. CNN is just as bad as Fox in that regard. MSNBC is the worst offender IMO.

Then we are toast. I don't mean to turn this into another deficit reduction thread but here's the short version of what happens if we delay spending cuts:

Fed has to keep buying our debt because other nations and individuals aren't at these interest rate levels. If the Fed tries to dis-engage interest rates spike which shoots our debt up even faster. It is a vicious cycle. Real growth of the economy will not occur as long as the government debt black hole is sucking so much of the money supply into it.

Too much of our expenditures are going toward paying people on entitlements a subsistence level of support. That's not going to grow the economy.

Despite pphil's optimism there is no way we get out of this without some serious economic pain.

The stock market is the only place right now showing any growth but it is not growth on fundamentals like earnings it is an increase in the PPS because everything else is paying a negative rate of return because the real inflation rate is over 5% a year whereas Treasury and money markets rates are...well you know where they are.

Here is what is going to happen. The Fed will at some point panic and start raising interest rates. The bond market will collapse followed shortly by the stock markets. There has to be a day of reckoning with the amount of debt the world has accumulated. Creating more debt will not help us get out of debt. It just cannot be done.

You have two choices: Stop spending and have a recession for sure; or spend away, maybe spend smarter and grow your way out of the debt. I'll take the choice which doesn't include a 100% for certain recession/depression.

Actually yes, some of that spending grows the economy more than almost anything else. Those folks don't save that money, they spend it. Immediately. It has a huge economic impact.

They've all (including NBC, CBS and ABC) tried to carve out little niches. Fox panders to the grumpy white demographic. MSNBC to the firey fixers of all societies ills....with someone else's money....because they're smarter. CNN to confused middle class people with college educations and blue collar jobs who want 'THEM' to be 'KEPT HONEST'. ....and so forth.

German TV has good news programs, as you'd expect. The BBC is generally reliable.
