    The Iowa GOP Debate

The Iowa straw poll is not a "test of strength." It's not a test of anything. It's a racket to raise money for the Iowa GOP. It's not democratic. It's not predictive. It's just a sideshow. Lest anyone get real worked up...

But having said that, it's good entertainment, and you never know - one of these may be President in Jan 2013 - so I'm watching.

debates are entertainment........otherwise we'd stop with the 30 second response to gotcha questions and let people speak for hours. Most of our 'problems' cant be solved with concepts that can be explained to the mob in 30 seconds.

    we deserve our gubmint!

Not that they have any chance of getting elected, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, and Utah Gov Huntsman were, in my eyes, most impressive.

Santorum and Cain were least impressive. Cain probably gives good speech, but he seemed out of his league.

Bachmann held her own, but confirmed the Newsweek photo was fair.

Romney, like 4 years ago, strikes me as Ted Baxter.

Santorum and Gingrich are not going to last too long. Gingrich's biggest enemy is his own mouth. He is the Joe Biden of the right.

Ideologically I am more for Paul……..but the executive is more about management. So I guess Romney.

It struck me how sheepish they all looked, raising their hands, when asked if they would reject a "$1 in increased revenues for every $10 in cuts." They should all accept that in a New York minute but "no tax increases" is a litmus test for the GOP.... like "no Cuba relations" is a litmus test for GOP Florida candidates.

Did anyone raise their hand on that question? Please tell me someone running on the GOP side has some sense.

    Ron Paul won.

Rick Santorum was practically run off the stage.

Pawlesky had the best quote, to Michele Bachmann: "if that is your leadership, just stop! Just stop! You are making it worse for all of us."

I doubt that is verbatim, but close enough! Loved it.... Put it to that self loathing bitch!

Paul is so plain spoken, and straight to the point that it terrifies people.

I think Adm Stockdale sank that ship more than Perot's perceived looniness.

What Pawlesky said was "She (Bachmann) says that shes fighting for these things. She fought for less government spending. We got a lot more. She lead the effort against Obama Care. We got Obama Care. She lead the effort against TA.R.P. We got T.A.R.P. She says shes got a a titanium spine. Its not her spine we're worried about. Its her record of results. If thats your view of effective leadership with results, please stop because you're killing us".

Bachmann says "I was at the tip of the spear fighting against the implementation of Obama Care in the United States Congress. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Barrack Obama ran congress, but I gave them a run for their money. Again, on cap and trade, I was there from the very beginning giving Speaker Pelosi a run for her money. Thats why I was Speaker Pelosi's number one target to defeat last year..because I was effectively taking them on, on nearly every argument they put forward. I fought when others ran, I fought, and I led against an increase in the deficit".

Check mate to Bachmann. Why? Because no matter how hard you fight, and it was obvious to anyone paying attention, that she did in fact, fight tooth and nail, just as she said, Congressman Bachmann still has but one vote. Pawlesky holding her responsible for the outcome of what the entire congress did, is idiotic. That extremely ridiculous accusation he made toward her prompted me to cross him off my list. I'm quite sure I'm not alone.

    Eh, maybe, but he shouldn't.

Ron Paul is the Barry Goldwater of our generation. He's likely not electable, but hopefully his message will resonate with the party and his "brand" of conservatism will become dominant.

Yes, but what she didn't say was that she also "led the fight" to strip law abiding Americans of their civil liberties and has publicly stated that she intends to disregard the 1st Amendment in order to implement her dogmatic belief system.

Oh Michele...Michele...Michele...oh how she teases us with her "limited-government" talk while failing to walk the walk.
