So, this is going to sound crazy but I think that maybe my diabetes has somehow been cured or gone away...
To give everyone a short update, I was put on two types of insulin: Humalog which I take up to 10 units of each time I eat and Lantus which I take 25 units of just before bed. I started this regimen on December 27th, and since then it has been pretty hard to keep my blood sugar within an acceptable range even with the insulin.
HOWEVER, starting about three days ago, I noticed that my blood sugar was consistently lower and lower which means I've taken a lot less insulin. Yesterday, I only took 2 units of Humalog all day long plus the normal 25 before bed. I've had very little insulin over the last 3 days and my blood sugar has never risen above 172 whereas before it was hard to get it under 220.
I woke up early this morning and was VERY hypoglaucemic, so I had a normal Pepsi and a candy bar to raise my blood sugar and then went back to bed. A few hours later, I woke up again and was still hypoglaucemic. I took my blood sugar and it was 57! So, my body is obviously lowering my blood sugar by itself without the aid of insulin.
I still haven't had any insulin today and after eating lunch and drinking a Mt. Dew, my blood sugar is 117.
Sooo, is it actually possible that I may not be diabetic anymore? My original doctor in Muskogee told me that I was a Type I diabetic, so there's no way I should be producing insulin on my own.
