Is anyone here a combat veteran?
Is anyone here a combat veteran?
Depends on the "real" definition.
I persnally do not consider myself a true combat vet.
I was in Vietnam as an AF Lt, butterbar, in 1971-71.
Was a weapons controller. Had our radar site on the top of the hill overlooking Pleiku AB. Had to defend our own perimeter. I was in charge of the M-60 bunker, and west side clamores. But, never had to fire a shot during my year. We had a lot of 122 rockets lobbed at us from the surrounding mountains. They ended up as holes where we planted bananna trees.
The cong always went for the ARVN camp on the east side of the base, and Camp Holloway, the Army chopper base to our east.
Gonna go Clinton on you and say "depends on what your definition of combat is." If it's, served in/flew sorties over an officially recognized combat zone, then yes...
I had to fight my way out of the enlisted men's club once. Does that count?
