The holidays can be volatile for some can't they? My family is small, and we see each other constantly. But even so, there are a few things that come up that can cause furor 'round the table. My in-laws, there's so many people we can kinda melt in until we (I) can make a get-away...
So, let's have some suggestions for safe topics for dinner time discussions...

Our topics usually are directed toward the younger folks. What have you been up to? How much longer do you have in school? What are your plans after school? This is really good stuffing.... Is the cowboys game on yet? You going shopping in the morning? Texas really sucks.

Our big discussion was where my nephew was going to commit (football)...No telling how many times he has been asked where he was going to go......Well he had a high-school t-shirt on then at some point changed it and came back in the room with-out saying word with an Air-Force Academy shirt on....hah....I could not be more proud of the kid.....
