The point is that he got this through and the Pubs think it's a political trap. The POTUS trumped their fear mongering with fear of being trapped.

Yeah, 3 time US reserves. He just canceled more than any of those other fields will ever produce.Canceled five lease sales off the Alaska coast that were planned over the next 2 years. One of the areas is estimated to hold up to 77 billion barrels of oil, or more than 3 times US reserves.
Dear Leader basically just ****ed us over big time on having any future domestic oil production outside the gulf.
Oh well, at least we are teaming with green jobs, electric cars and we are all so flush with cash we don't need this icky energy stuff.
