Question to small business owners or people

with friends and family members who have small businesses.

So if this health care bill does pass, will you, or those you know who do own small businesses drop the coverage they carry on their employees and leave them to the mercy of the new socialistic universal type health care?

We pay 100% of our employees coverage right now but I'm sure with the big raise in our taxes that this bill will cause I don't see us being able to afford to pay for the full coverage we carry on our employees Blue Cross and Blue Shield plan any longer.

From what I gather, there's a penalty on businesses who hire low income workers, to offset the increased gov't subsidy they will get.

I'll do whatever my accountant tells me to, but my company is in a very unique position; we hire really good developers and pay the **** out of them, so the cost of healthcare as a percentage of total payroll costs isn't that significant. We've been fortunate so far in that the folks we've hired have wives working for schools or hospitals so their insurance is better than what we can provide.

I'd like to have an in-depth knowledge of how the bill will affect us, but it's not a factor I can control and my hands are full (and then some) understanding and managing the factors within my scope of power.

Well, we know there is a fine for not providing insurance, but that fine is less than providing a policy. I heard the number $700 floated out there.

As a small business owner myself, I have no idea what I will do. I am lucky that all of my employees save myself are covered under the Insure Oklahoma plan. That way I can have full coverage for all of them yet they only pay 15% and I only pay 15%. It's not perfect but it is really good for me.

My biggest concern is my clients. Since I have a medical billing company that caters to small 1-2 provider practices, this plan will impact them significantly and in turn my business. I am proud to say that all of my clients are physicians are in it for the medicine and not the money. This leaves them with over 75% of their patients being on Medicare or Medicaid. Most of them have said they could very likely close up shop if this plan is forced down their throats.

I just wish these Congressmen could remember that everyone already has access to healthcare. If they can't afford something, then they need to work harder for coverage not wait for it to be handed to them. We are guaranteed the PURSUIT of happiness not happiness it self. I personally like living in a meritocracy.
