    RIP Chester

The past few days, I noticed our little guy was lethargic and would meow when he looked at me, which he never days.

Problem got worse over the few days so I took him into the vet. He had a blockage in his urethra, his urine back into his kidneys, causing renal failure.

I just got back from the vet after making one of the toughest decisions of my life. But I'm thankful I got to spend the last moments of his life with him as he passed away.

    RIP Chester.

I am sorry about your loss...and it brought a tear to my eye because I also have an aging dog named Chester and the inevitable will be a really sad moment...

    Re: RIP Chester

    Thanks everyone.

I took this pic moments before the vet came in and put him to sleep. He had been miserable the past few days before getting the blockage cleared. From that standpoint, it's good to know that, for that moment, he was somewhat back to his old self.

I'll still miss him though. And I'm not ashamed to admit I cried like a baby before and after the procedure.

Losing a pet is a tough thing, I know. With one of our dogs, I think we waited a couple of months too long. It is a tough decision to let a dog go but sometimes it is the best one.

I am sorry for your loss. I would recommend a book titled "Rescuing Sprite" by Mark Levin. It is an amazing book about a dogs impact on a family.

I still miss both of mine.

    [sigh]

So sorry for your loss. Look back on the good and great times you had with little Chester and let those ease your pain. You were there for him in his time of need, and that's all he could've asked of you.

Again, very sorry for your loss.

I just saw this, and I'm so sorry. It is so hard to make the decision, but it would have been worse for Chester to be sick and in pain. What a beautiful cat.

Sorry for your loss, I went through the same thing with my Min-pin a year and a half ago. I stayed with him and held him to the end. Never regretted that I did. It's a tough call, but I know you made the right one.

    Condolences.

    Re: RIP Chester

Can't thank you all for the kind words.

It's been 24 hours now since my friend passed away. Plenty of sadness from our family today.

But after this point, I'll focus on the happy moments. Because he was a happy cat for the 3 1/2 years we were lucky enough to have him.

And because his little sister, Cali, is going to need a little extra attention and comfort to help her cope.

Sorry, Grapevine. We put our 15 year old labrador retriever to sleep a year ago, and it's still hard. But you did the right thing, and you'll take comfort in that as you should.
